Who Killed The Electric Car? team builds a website for new Revenge film

It's bare bones at this point, but the first official product from the Revenge of the Electric Car movement is now available. It's the Revenge of the Electric Car website and if you want to follow director Chris Paine and his crew as they film the ~~sequel to~~ ~~follow-up to~~ next movie after Who Killed The Electric Car? in spots around the world. So far, the site has a few blog posts and a FAQ and lists Paines upcoming speaking dates (he's in Idaho today). The FAQ tells us that the new movie "will be a very different film - in tone, approach and content - from 'Who Killed the Electric Car?' It is emphatically not a 'sequel' or a 'follow up.'" The plan is to pick up the story of electric cars in 2008-2010, which seems to be a follow-up to me. But maybe I'm just being picky. I still say "Revenge of the Electric Car" should have been the third movie. The second one should be called "The Electric Car Strikes Back."

I feel like the electric car movement is overlooking one very important factor: Where are we going to get all this extra electricity needed to charge electric cars? America's electrical grids are already stressed and to date we have not developed clean, affordable electrical power plants on a large scale. If we use coal fired power plants to charge our electric cars; what have we achieved?

Our organization looks at energy from the standpoint of its impact on water resources. Currently the nations 550 power plants use 214 billion gallons of water each day for cooling purposes. In addition these plants pollute water resources with lead and mercury. If the electrical demand is significantly increased the need for and pollution of water resources will also increase. Electrical cars are a great ideas; but their charging sources must come from wind or solar energy. www.nv-oc.org
