Project Green Leaf plans "Plug In America Infrastructure"

It appears that the forces behind an electric car factory in Florida have ambitions that reach far beyond the borders of the Sunshine State or the building of a gas-free car. With the launch of its new website, Project Green Leaf announces its intentions of creating a country-wide infrastructure of charging points for the coming fleet of plug-in hybrids and electric cars. Its initial focus seems centered on several types of locations for their chargers consisting of hotels, restaurants, movie theaters and shopping centers. Unlike the better known "Better Place" infrastructure company, no mention is made of battery-swapping stations or cell phone-like payment model.
One interesting feature of the PGL program is the integration of information services into its charging posts. Each four foot tall, stainless steel station would have an integrated touch screen that could display information you request, such as your account details or the local weather. They could also display location-specific ads or movie trailers and thereby add another revenue stream for the company. While the eventual success of the Project Green Leaf effort remains to be seen, we can't help but be impressed by the scope of their vision. We will keep you informed as more details emerge.[Source: North Escambia.com]

This is a great idea. There is nothing more tempting to a company like ad revenue. With this green movement we've got going there are tons of companies looking to place ads on environmentally friendly platforms like clothing companies, cleaning product producers, and car companies...

Hi Mike,
I work for the Project Green Leaf Infrastructure program.
You'e right, you can of courseplug your EV or PHEV in a normal outlet at home, but our "home model" will be equipped with our touch screen. This screen will display many interesting information : your local government infomation like Amber Alert, but also information about our ecological programs and information from our partners.
Best regards,
Alex

What a waste of money if that's all it does.

Now is the time for the vendors who want to sell electricity at charging points to work with the SAE and define plug standards and charging standards, etc. Nothing like pulling up to a fast charging station, in the future, when you are on empty with a plug connector that won't fit.

Project Green Leaf, Project Better Place, Coulomb Technologies, EDF, and perhaps others are all developing public charging facilities. Before they start installing them, they really REALLY need to get together and cooperate to work out standards for charging and billing, and make them interoperable so that future plug-in drivers can use any of them without excessive hassles.
The last attempt to install public charging facilities in the late -'90s resulted in at least 3 different incompatible connections, no provision for orderly billing, and the high costs resulted in far too few installations.

I am sorry, I do not have a good feeling about these guys. I too admire their vision, but seriously doubt their execution intent. I hope to learn more soon. From first impression, I have serious doubts, but who knows... people tend to surprise at times.
