Volkswagen has announced 2WD versions of the Tiguan that feature a lower base price along with reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Prices for the 2WD are about €1,400 below the equivalent 4WD (called 4Motion) versions and the emissions cut means the 2WD Tiguan escapes some gas guzzler taxes all around Europe. The base Tiguans can be found both in gasoline and diesel versions. The gas models get the 1.4-liter TFSI engine good for 150hp. Fuel consumption is down by 0.6 liters to 7.4 l/100 km (32 mpg) and CO2 emissions are down to 171 g/km. On the diesel side, the Tiguan gets the 2.0-liter TDI good for 140hp. This engine burns half a liter less fuel per kilometer - 5.9 l/100 km (40 mpg U.S.) - and emits 155 g/km of CO2.
