Mulally first to announce that he's driving to Congress, will take Escape hybrid

Well whadda' ya know. At least one Detroit CEO is planning on driving down to Washington from the Motor City in a real, honest-to-goodness
At first, we had imagined that Mulally would use the new-for-'10 Fusion. That car seems to put its best Blue-Oval-shaped foot forward, besting such efficiency stalwarts as the Toyota Camry hybrid that it will compete with head-to-head in fuel mileage. There is one potential problem with the Fusion, though: it's built in Mexico. The Escape hybrid is assembled in Kansas City, MO., and it is (was) also the vehicle of choice for President-elect Obama. Decision made.

Hope to hear that Congress follows his example and their own advice = drive to Washington instead of flying and cut their pay because they got us into a boatload of trouble.

That does leave him open to criticism about the thing being an SUV, but i suppose that's more of a hollow criticism than pointing out that the Fusion isn't built in the states. The new Fusion deserves the attention though, being brand new and in a more competitive market.

For those that wanted to see him drive the Fusion Hybrid, there's always next trip.
It will be interesting to see what the other companies drive.

Well, isn't it nice that he deigns himself to drive a car. Barring the fact that a person's true nature is revealed in their initial action and any actions after that point are manipulated, controlled and contrived, doesn't it make more sense to fly commercial?
That's what I would do if I was flying from Detroit to DC. These out of whack responses are what do raise my confidence level about these guys.

His true nature is he worked for Boeing up until a couple years ago. So of course he loves to fly.
And even if he did drive the first time, it would have been a stunt, as it is this time. Do you really think he's going to give up flying to places he needs to go? Even if he did, would the money saved add up anyway?
No, it often doesn't make sense for a CEO to fly commercial. You know how it seems to eat a whole business day just for you to take a 4 hours flight? The CEO's time is valuable enough that getting most of that half day back by flying private makes sense.

Read my post again. CEOs time is valueable enough that the showing up for flights 2 hours early, waiting for luggage to come off, etc. adds up and flying private can make more sense.
I also would fly commercial from Detroit to DC. But I'm not a CEO.

If GM drives the Volt, they'll get the money just like that. Because that's the best way to prove they're committed to the innovation we need.
