VIDEO: Stressed about driving an SUV in NYC? Take the bike lane

Bike lanes should be reserved for bikes, don't you think? The driver of an SUV in New York City disagrees and his or her decision to not grasp the importance of keeping the lanes open for cyclists was caught on film (find it after the jump). The SUV driver decides that he/she's had enough of waiting and just slips away through the bike lane. Of course, it doesn't help that the big white Avis truck causes a jam by just waiting in the parked cars lane, thinking that they'll be moving soon. Although Treehugger believes that this might be because New Yorkers aren't yet used to the new street configuration, driving on bike lanes is a severely punished infraction in most places. If the police don't find the perp, at least we can laugh at them online. Find the video after the jump.

According to Bike Snob NYC, the fines for driving in the bike lane and driving over people are not enforced. Also, I can speak from experience that in Atlanta the police are more likely to harass a cyclist for a light violation than a car for a lane violation.

The SUV driver was a nimrod, but doesn't compare to the truck driver.
The driver of the truck screwed up traffic for countless people. The driver of the SUV screwed up traffic for no one.
BTW: I only saw one bike in the video and it wasn't in a bike lane.
