Fisker set to debut new Karma S "Sunset" concept in Detroit

Something new from Fisker? Color us intrigued, especially after taking a gander at the lone teaser shot that's been released. We already know that the production version of the Karma plug-in hybrid sedan will be debuting at the Detroit Auto Show, and now word comes that the budding automaker will have something else on hand to display called the Sunset. At this point, details are sketchy at best, but we're hoping that this is another extended-range electric-vehicle like its slightly older sibling. Could Fisker be having twins?
One possible hint that the Sunset may use a similar drivetrain is that the exhaust tips exit just behind the front wheels, just like they do on the Karma. We also don't see a B pillar behind the driver's seat, so we are left wondering if this could be a convertible. If so, the Sunset name would seem rather appropriate, don't you think?
UPDATE: Fisker sent us the following information about the Sunset: Similar architecture; identical powertrain to Karma. Looks phenomenal. It will blow your top! Also, official name of car is Fisker Karma S. S does stand for Sunset, but we're going with Karma S nomenclature.

As explained to me, the word "Sunset" translates to "Tramonto" in Italian, which means this is likely the next Fisker Tramonto. It'll be interesting to see how it adopts the Karma's design language. Since the current Tramonto is a hard-top convertible based on the SL55 AMG and the performance version has a top speed of 202mph, a Karma-derived drivetrain would be a massive change.
Color me intrigued...

I wouldn't be suprised to see a convertible version of Karma since Valmet Automotive sure knows how to build them...

It's a soft top convertible.

Is it pedantic of me to think that Fisker should focus on actually filling orders for the Karma before worrying about their second model?

The entire first year's orders have already been sold out. It's not uncommon for a manufacturer to show another concept during a period just before the start of the first's production. Alfa did the same thing recently with the 8C Competizione and 8C Spyder.
You have to keep in mind, this is, in the grand scheme, still a small company. Fisker and Tesla are "boutique" autocompanies, (same as Ferrari and Lamborghini, to a degree). Planning months and even years ahead of time to get figure out which direction to go is even more crucial for us boutique companies than for the large mainstream manufacturers because we don't have a full lineup of product to cover our asses.

"Karma S" -- that's got to be a "tweak of the nose" for Tesla and their "Model S"
