European Insight brochure leaks out

The world can be a leaky place, especially since the internet makes it easy to spread any early information in an extremely rapid manner. Such is life for automakers at the moment. The latest victim (or beneficiary, if you consider a leak to be free advertising) is Honda, which saw a Japanese brochure for its upcoming Insight hybrid hatchback leaked out to the internet just last week. This was followed up by the leak of what appears to be a European brochure that offers us tons of sneak peeks at details such as the new Euro-spec Insight's head lamps, tail lights, grille, wheels and dash. Overall, the car looks pretty similar to the concept that was introduced last year in Paris, gaining cleaner lines overall and losing unnecessary show car bits in the process. As much as we all like to see these early shots, we only have a short wait until January 11th when the car will get its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show. Until then, enjoy these early teasers.

Yeah, but as others have said before, there's only so many ways you can build a 5-passenger car with a drag coefficient in the mid-0.20 range.
It doesn't look bad to me, but I'll hold my final judgement on the car until we learn it's official EPA mileage estimates and retail pricing.

Compare this ride to the ol Honda Insight and you see that it is not an extreme fuel saver!

Comparing the 2010 Insight to the previous Insight is like comparing apples to oranges.
There is no question that the 2010 Insight will be less efficient than the old one when carrying 1 or 2 passengers. But the old Insight could only hold 2 passengers while the new one can carry 5 and a lot more luggage.
While I personally would love to see a return of the original Insight (a very small, light, efficient 2-seater, 3-seats would be even better for that odd case where I need to carry 3 people) for commuting, apparently Honda doesn't feel that it would be very profitable at this point in time.

I see this argument all the time despite car occupancy is not higher than 1.1-1.2 on average.
Isn't it the case that the 2 seater Smart for two has sold 20%-30% more in Dec. 2008 than Dec. 2007?
Assuming the new Insight concept could save space because of optimised packaging and shrinking battery and controller - yes we had some progress there - two children seats in the back would have been possible.
Honda is doing wrong cannibalising the ol Insight brand with a standard vehicle - not even advanced hybrid.
Hybrid may have been shining overlapping the basic problems - weight and to much comfort, but that's over now. Direction Microcar is today's success model - see the Smart sales.

The old Insight had a passenger weight of 350 lb. That takes care of me and the wife and a toothbrush. Cannot take it on a trip. Get over the old name guys. This car is a better all-around car.
