Ouch! Woman bites NYC bus driver because it isn't a hybrid

While I haven't met all of you, I'm pretty sure most AutoblogGreen readers are a lot more understanding when a particular vehicle isn't as clean as possible than Shelia Bolar is. According to the New York Daily News, Bolar, a public transportation rider (and apparent poet) got angry when the bus she was waiting for turned out to not be a hybrid one. After yelling at the driver for a while - he responded by saying that he wasn't in charge of which bus he's assigned - she grabbed his arm and bit him. Through a jacket, a sweater and a shirt, Bolar managed to bruise the driver's arm, but didn't break the skin. The Daily News says Bolar is now facing assult charges and will have to take a psychiatric exam. C'mon, have some sense.

I'd nominate that for "Comment of the Day", except this isn't Jalopnik...

Great comments!! At least this woman was willing to take action to protect the environment! I would have liked to have seen the look on the bus drivers face when the looney bit him!

Do you really think this action did anything to protect the environment?
Surely the resulting traffic jam and emergency equipment rushing to the scene didn't help. Neither will the energy wasted on legal actions, mental exams and police paperwork.
Will this action result in more frequent hybrid bus sightings on the road?
The outlandish protest methods that seem to be popular these days do more for an organization's publicity than real environmental change. Plus it makes it that much harder for the general public to take real green efforts seriously.

It was tongue in cheek, Phil, jeez, the whole thread is just of comedians having a good time with it. Don't take yourself so seriously.

"At least this woman was willing to take action to protect the environment! "
You're kidding right? It's people like this that set the green movement back! By demonstrating unreasonable behavior, she did more harm than good to her "cause".
tigerstale 8:34PM (1/28/2009)
Yeah, sure - she did her part for the environment - by threatening to transmit tetanus, hepatitis B or C, and who knows what else. That woman is the worst possible representation for any movement, let alone the Greens - you don't like the bus? Do everyone a favor - walk!
jharlan 2:12AM (1/28/2009)
The woman was obviously mentally unstable. If you had witnessed this behavior you would have been stunned with disbelief. Everybody wants less pollution. No one in their right mind is going to hold any "green movement" responsible for the unexplainable acts of this whacko. Come on!

Then why is this story showing up on this blog? Really, it only rates a minor note in the NY police blotter.
The fact that this is even being reported as "news" - within the green community, no less - indicates just how twisted things have become. What "real" news didn't show up because this space was take?
harlanx6 10:43AM (1/28/2009)
Phil, I kind of have to agree with you on that, but it doesn't hurt to insert a little humor once in a while, and look at all the comments it drew. This is a great blog and it always stimulates dialogue.
Reducing emissions and energy independence are deadly serious subjects, but the market is working and improvements are hitting the showroom almost daily now. Everyone would like to see faster progress, but the system works.
Phil L. 11:32AM (1/28/2009)
I appreciate humor as much as anyone else. I tend to expect humor like this on Fark, not ABG.
Yeah, it's funny. But it's also masquerading as "green" news - which isn't helpful.
harlanx6 8:09PM (1/28/2009)
I give up Phil. You are way too serious for me.

I'd feel a lot better about the experimental high-efficiency buses we have around here (we have some CNGs and some diesel/electrics) if it weren't for all the money they save the transit commission going into the paint jobs.

Shelia is only hurting her cause by putting all environmentalists into the "nutjob" category, where the general public will shun them.

Liberals aren't really tolerant are they. I guess violence is progressive. So are riots, revolutions and the killing fields.
