Video of Plug In America's Inaugural Parade West - with 70 electric cars
Click above and scroll down to watch the video
We've already learned a lot about the sweet electric car parade that cruised through Santa Monica two weekends ago, but if all those pictures were not enough for you, we've got a solid 38-minute video for you to check out. The video includes scenes from inside the parade cars, shots of EVs cruising down the streets and lots of plug-in advocates talking about where plug-in cars are today. Thanks to Viddler's tag ability, you can easily skip to the speaker of your choice. Names you might know include Chris Paine, the director of "Who Killed the Electric Car?"; Ed Kjaer, the director of electric transportation for SoCal Edison; and California State Senator Fran Pavley. There are others, and this would be a fine way to spend your lunch hour if you haven't already spent that today (hint, hint). You can watch what went down after the jump.

First of all, if you`re going to wear your shirt tucked in, make sure you wear a god-damned belt!
Nothing looks worse then pants with belt hoops sans the belt. It just looks half assed and unrefined.

Wow fashion police here on Autoblog green. LOL! I was looking at the nice looking Girl and did not know the guys pants did not have a belt. Maybe he had his shirt out but then this pants were starting to fall down, then he had to put his shirt in his pants to keep them up? But really who cares, Nice cars. Hopefully they can comedown on the price of the electrics so the masses can have them.

I noticed that they were talking mainly of foreign oil versus electric. ' We need to move away from foreign oil to electric cars they said many times It's because
their memory of ' past lives' is still mess-up with the war and disease that happen long long time ago with a robot corpses civilisation where these corpses were powered by a water battery that split hydrogen and oxygen and make electricity for powering the corpse. The first corpes of this civilisation were robot corpses but after a while skin corpses like today's corpses were created but it devellopped along the way cultural differences in art, languages, sex, business trading, etc. Finnally every one died painfully of pollution and rust in the body.
So these folks are just trying to heal with and electric car and are of no value in the normal cars that im speaking about here regularly, a car that move on the road with a full human corpse inside that don't make shit with what happen in the long distant past before this planet.

I have to say... the default avatar is most fitting for gorr.

Gorr, did it ever occur to you that the reason everyone thinks you are crazy is because the things you say sound totally insane?
To paraphrase Lincoln: It is better to remain silent and be thought crazy, than to speak up and remove all doubt.

Gorr,
You sound like a corpse sniffing some hydrogen, go back to the middle ages and save us from your nonsense.

Thank you, Chris.

What a Parade! Interesting to see the variety of freeway capable EVs already on the road, in far greater number than all the H2 powered vehicles put together.

Why was there a Gas Engine Toyota pick up? That was wrong to have that in the parade, promoting some company probably, someone is always trying to promote something with that group, Tesla, AC Propulsion, gas truck in an electric parade???
Zipper 9:18PM (1/29/2009)
The Toyota truck was in the parade because it was affixed with solar panels. Plug In America promote the idea of charging electric vehicles with renewable energy for true zero emissions, from well to wheels. That was the message the solar truck sent.

Man that's a great video. Well done.

I kind of have to laugh at this video... bunch of rich yuppies in Santa Monica who are the only ones who can all afford an EV like the ebox, tesla, rav4 ev...etc.
Brilliant how the 16 yr wants an EV from the idiots at GM who crushed the EV. BTW, the Volt EV is $40k. Oh wait, your parents are probably yups who can shell it out. If not, forget about college.

Lol, the parade was funny. Normally a parade implies people on the side of the street cheering which was not the case. The girl driving the ebox was waiving to nobody or unsuspecting bystanders... lame.

The RAV4 EVs were $29,000; plenty of SUVs are more than that. The eBox at the parade is owned by AC Propulsion, the company who makes them.
It's really not any of our business what people do with their money. At least they are putting it towards clean cars. Plug in America wants these cars to be mass-produced, so they are affordable. Many of the members don't own electric cars, because they can't afford them.
These are not bad people and you should not put them down because they are trying to make the world a better place.

Reminds me of the saying - Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world!
Let's keep up the good work.

Why do so American contributors still scoff at EVs instead of looking to take a leading role? It's no wonder the US is behind the curve on EV development and is having to catch up by belatedly buying in technology from Europe and China, then dressing it up with American badges. Is this the best America can do?
Grab the opportunity instead of sneering at it! Or get left behind. The future is electric. UK companies are already capturing the commercial vehicles market for EVs - see the Case Studies page at http://www.smithelectricvehicles.com or look at http://www.ModecZEV.com as two examples. Japan or France will likely be the first to get massmarket electric cars in the showrooms 18 months from now. How far behind will America be? Come on guys. The race is on.

I must beg to differ. Tesla Motors has been delivering freeway capable EVs for about 9 months, Aptera will begin EV production this year, and the Detroit 3 have all announced plans for EVs or PHEVs or both. Enerdel and A123 are producing LiIon batteries for cars with plans to ramp up production. There are NEVs from companies like GEM and Kurrent, and a host of retrofit converters like Hybrid Technologies.
All of those in the US of A.
And of course, this little EV parade was held in California, which I believe is still part of the US of A.
Of course, the competition is really good, and it keeps US on our toes!
