Geneva Preview: Honda may intro diesel-powered Accord Type S

If Autocar is right, Honda will be launching its first high-performance diesel model in the shape of a new Accord Type S. The new S is expected to be shown at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The Euro Accord, which we get here as the Acura TSX, will get propulsion from an upgraded version of the i-DTEC 2.2L four cylinder that boosts power from 148 to 177 hp and torque from 258 to 280 lb-ft. The turbo and cylinder are revised and the intercooler is increased in size to achieve the extra output. Lucky Europeans will even have the option of getting the Type-S diesel in the Europe-only wagon body style. Unfortunately, the weak overall market and sustained high diesel prices have meant that Acura has canceled plans to bring the diesel to the U.S.-market TSX this year.

Hopefully Honda doesn't ditch its diesel plans due to cheap gasoline. Same goes for Subaru.
I keep waiting for someone, anyone to stand up and try to peg diesel fuel to one of the grades of gasoline. You'd think truckers would've tried before, and that the automakers would've said something about it while begging for cash to congress.
Not too surprised though, since the automakers didn't really have any good ideas that would help a lot like the following:
1.Peg price of diesel to premium fuel make it more economical to buy a diesel car.
2.Relax diesel car emission regs for a few years to get more small diesels on the road. Yes, emissions are bad, but I'm pretty sure truck emissions are worse. (different rules)
3.Harmonize crash safety standard with Canada and Europe, so development costs can be reduced, and cars can be shifted to where they're selling with little to no modifications.

The diesel version not coming to the US has nothing to do with "liberals" or "socialists" you paranoid, fear-mongering weirdo. The current Honda diesel is much cleaner burning than diesels of old, and could easily meet EPA requirements.
It's strictly a business decision by Honda not to release the model in the US market, the same way that they don't release a wagon version here either.

Why do "progressives" always resort to juvenile name calling? It that “progress” or do you simply lack the power of language?
And NO, this car will NOT pass the extremely strict CA emission standards and that is why they are NOT importing it to the US, comrade.

Our choice remains German cars. That's a shame, not because German cars are inferior in any way, but because we are refusing to compete. It is reminiscent of the bug in the 50s. The Germans kicked Detroits ass with those beetles for 30 years before detroit offered any 30MPG cars and by then, the Japanese started really kicking their(and our) asses. Are we really a nation of really slow learners? Yes we are!

I had a 2.2 diesel Euro Accord wagon for a few years. An absolutley fantastic car.
This more powerful diesel version should prove very successful, especially to those used to 2.0 diesel BMW power at 170 bhp.
More importantly, the diesel is now available with an automatic box. Please, please, Honda, put the diesel automatic in the CR-V!

No Pain NO Gain!!! Honda have a .little faith! Americans are ready for the diesel. Why must you force me to look elsewhere in 2010 for my fix. Been reading for years about your 4 cyl. diesels everywher but here. Been saving up for my diesel CRV for the last two years. Not and easy feat as a Louisiana State worker! Why do you drive me away. I've had a '92 Civic. Still driving my '94 LXA Civic and have a 2005 Accord LX.
Please let me stay in the family!
