Iran's Samand Soren boasts the world's most powerful natural-gas car engine
Iran's most important car manufacturer, Iran Khodro, has announced they are developing the world's most powerful natural gas engine. The engine is installed in the marque's latest model, the Samand Soren (a car which can trace its roots to the Peugeot 405). Although this claim should be checked against the VW Passat TSI EcoFuel, Iran Khodro claims that the Samand Soren ELX produces 150hp and that the engine is Euro IV compliant. No other specifications were announced. Natural gas is a solution that is being promoted by authorities in Tehran, one of the most polluted cities in the world.

Are you sure that is accurate? 150bhp seems to be very little for a NGV given there are buses in many cities that use CNG or LPG, and I believe a bus needs more than 150bhp to go around.

If you have to use an ICE, of course hydrogen is the cleanest, but methane is next. Another advantage is we have ample supply of fairly cheap methane. Reality is the ICE is going to be the dominate propulsion system for the next decade. When enough electrons can be stored in a small, cheap device, the ICE is a goner.

Maybe...just maybe...they have more sense and forward thinking than you give them credit for and they are realizing it's better to get off of oil more than we are willing to admit?
People under-estimated Iran and Iranians. They are smart people, a very old culture, and we have much to learn from them in many ways.
We've screwed that country over so many times and for so many decades and we pretend to wonder why there's so much animosity between us and them?
Go figure.

la soren est une voiture et tres belle elle a beaucoup de classe reste a savoir c'est elle est solide. nous en poséde une SAMAND lx 1.8 dpuis le 17 janvier 2008,rien a dire sauf quelques défauts de fabrication par ex:la malle,les amortisseurs................. merci et a bientot inchallah.
