Prince Charles attacked as a hypocrite for taking private jet on climate change tour

Despite the best of green efforts, it seems poor Prince Charles can not catch a break. He's been labeled a hypocrite by the Daily Mail for using a private jet to accomplish a South American tour to discuss deforestation and climate change. Back at home, the next-inline-to-the-throne has put his Jaguars and Range Rover (and even his Mum's Bentleys) on a bio-diesel diet, his Aston Martin sips wine-derived ethanol, and he's made his humongous household entirely carbon-neutral. Even the trip, which could generate 322 tons of CO2, will be entirely offset.
Since his itinerary has him making almost 40 appearances over 10 days, it would be impossible for the prince and his entourage of 14 to fly the friendly skies on commercial flights. So, to further avoid his being made to look like Rodney Dangerfield in a tiara, we here at AutoblogGreen suggest the following solution. Take the sailboat dude. Yeah, it may take a little longer but at least you wouldn't have to read about yourself in the tabloids.

Like Nazi Pelosi. She preaches the green, but she sure loves having a private jet to shuttle here to and froe Cali and DC.

Why won't people give the prince a break? He's traveling via the most efficient method so he can make the maximum impact in the time he has available. Plus, he's entirely offsetting the carbon generated from the trip.

Carbon offsets are a scam.

The most efficient method is teleconference, which is what he would do if he really believed his own crap. And the next poster is right, carbon credits are a scam. Using them to excuse high carbon output is just another thing putting the lie to the prince's claim of "being green".

The only way he could "offset" his emissions would be to take the same amount of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere as his electric and fuel usage puts in. Paying someone else not to dump THEIR emissions into the atmosphere doesn't "offset" anything. Planting trees has only a minuscule effect, only if other trees aren't being lost to natural causes and cutting, and only 50 years from now when they're mature trees with the maximum amount of foliage.
Tim is right, teleconferencing is the way to go. If HRH, Al Gore, and all the rest really believed their own hype, they'd stay home and use the vast array of more energy-efficient technologies to participate in these events.

He's no environmentalist, all he wants is to setup a global taxation system based on this carbon nonsense, which he and his compadres would benefit from instead of paying to.
Why anyone would trust him, given the history of royalty, is beyond me.

Prince Charles is a twit. I'm shocked anyone listens to anything he says. I think he's got Algore disease.

Somebody get the Prince a subscription to Gotomeeting.com and he can forego the carbon offsets for the plan and the heat he's taking now.

Great point. Has to be some kind of record. I don't think I ever saw discussion ended on the first comment.

Why is he on a tight schedule? It's not like he has to hurry to get back to his job.

Offset how? Is he personally fixing all those tons of CO2 out of the air. Or merely writing a check to one of these shyster outfits that somehow claim to result in lower CO2 emissions? Those carbon credit sham deals are proof that PT Barnum was correct about a sucker born every minute.

So he's in the same club as St. Al Gore the hypocrite.

I don't see how he's a hypocrite. Seriously, he, his security detail and whatever assistants he has should fly commercial? A Prince of England on a commercial airline that can very EASILY be hi-jacked? That makes sense to people? Then, they'd have to bump everyone from the flight to ensure security. So 10-20 filling a jumbo jet to fly to all various locations makes more sense than a smaller more efficient private jet does?

I agree what rush does he have...He can take as long as he needs to come and go...not like his time off is over and he needs to get back to work
