Over at Jason Calacanis' blog, a new teaser shot of the Tesla Model S has surfaced that shows a bit more detail of the car's greenhouse profile. According to Jason, the photo was emailed to buyers of the Signature 100 cars, of which he is one. We got our first glimpse of the new car last week but this one shows more. Most of the car appears to be hidden in this image but there are details if you know how to look. A visit to the curves adjustment in Photoshop reveals the same fender trim seen on the earlier shot as well as the wheels. In the adjusted version, the door handles and side glass profile are also visible, as is the glass roof. We don't know at this point if the glass roof will be part of the production model, although it could be problematic for an EV. The extra thermal load would have the air conditioning working harder and thus cut into the range. You can check out the enhanced photo after the jump.
Tesla has opened the reservation list for the Signature Series and Jason is so happy with his Roadster that he has decided to order two Model S Signature Series sedans. Right now, only early adopters of the Roadster can get on the list for a $40,000 refundable deposit. Following the March 26 reveal, anyone will be able to order one for a $10,000 deposit, and if you already own a Roadster, you'll get $10,000 off the price of a Model S. Don't forget the enhanced version of the Model S teaser after the jump. Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Did you say $400 refundable deposit or $40,000 refundable deposit? Let me check my coin jar.

This is for the signature series. It's the same as the signature series roadster which you pretty much had to pay a deposit of the full purchase price. It's for customers who want to fund Tesla.

Drop that baby down to $20,000 and you got a sale.

Blah, whatever, it's just another sporty looking car, albeit an EV. Let's get the price down and then the masses will give a shit.

So is Lotus supplying the chassis for the Model S too? Or is it being done in-house?

Model S is all in-house

"The Masses" already care, look how much they're complaining about the cost of new technology that they want and can't afford yet.
The difference between the "10 year promise" to mass market appeal of EVs and all the other technologies out there from bio-fuels to fuel cells is that EVs are actually being made and *sold* and improved upon already. Even as the price comes down in an EV, the range simultaneously goes up. The most expensive part? The batteries. Want affordable electric cars sooner? Give Tesla a loan to build a battery manufacturing plant in socal with R&D joint ventures with local universities.

Kinda Fisker-ish...
Yes, I do remember Henry Fisker was the guy who worked on its development design-wise, and that he got sued by Tesla. That's why I'm pointing out the resemblance of the two models (of course we'll have to wait and see it in all its glory) but this might actually give Tesla a bit more of credibility on their claim.
Not saying Tesla is right, nor Fisker. Just pointing out that IMO both look rather similar.
