New Flint plant cancelled, Volt/Cruze engines to be built at existing location

2011 Chevy Cruze and its new 1.4L Turbo engine
After canceling the construction contracts for a new Flint, MI engine plant a month ago, General Motors has now officially canceled the whole plant. The plant was due to build new 1.4L four cylinder engines for the Chevy Cruze and Volt starting in 2010. Based on current and expected future production volumes, the company decided it had enough space in an existing plant adjacent to where the new one was to be built.
This spring, GM will begin preparation of the Flint South engine plant to accommodate tooling for the new engine line. Production of the new engines is scheduled to start in December 2010. When Cruze production begins next spring, the initial supplies of engines will come from a plant in Aspern, Austria until the domestic production is ready.

PRESS RELEASE:
GM Confirms Engine for Chevy Volt and Cruze Will Be Built in Existing Flint, Mich. Plant
General Motors has confirmed today that it will still invest approximately $250 million to bring the 1.4-liter 4-cylinder Family 0 engine production to Flint, Mich. The engine capacity for the Chevy Volt and Cruze will be allocated to existing and available floor space in the company's Flint South engine plant located on Bristol Road.
Preparations to the Flint South plant for installation of new machinery and equipment will begin this Spring. Production of the 1.4-liter engines is targeted to begin in December 2010.
Production of Family 0 engines at Flint South will be GM's most flexible and competitive engine manufacturing lines in the world, with approximately 150 highly flexible stations that will allow production of multiple 4-cylinder engine families without retooling.
This means that GM will not invest in new floor space at this time due to current capital expenditure constraints and available floor space in existing facilities.

This compagny, GM, will dissapear before ever having offer a green car to a normal paying consumer. They are now living with tax money and their supposetly green car is not a green car because it use gasoline and costly and inneficient battery. Goverment and their boss, corrupt politicians and bloggers have put all car manufacturers near bankrupcy and in a constantly changing regulation and legislative changing structure where profitability is no more existant. This is communism at his best , everything is bad and dangerous and special commitees driven by nobody you can speak too is deciding each month to change every laws and regulations to please nobody except tax collection employees that spend more money then they collect and distribute this money to the less productive people there is because producing something is seen as a crime and only crying from the weak is rewarded.
On the other end new start-up compagny cannot start a production line because of the huge amounts of invesment it take before selling one car and existing agonising car compagnies sticking with mandated gasoline/diesel are still operating their toxic assembly line at a loss, even docile and hard working toyota is in the red zone, losing money to please their owners, big-oil.
So, you'll never see gm producing and selling a green car because they are hypocrit working for bigger players then them. The're even lying that the volt is an upcoming green car but still use proven inneficient technology, gasoline and battery. It's been 100 years that we can observe that gasoline is toxic and that battery don't work. They stick with it to please the martians that run the white house, wall streets, big-oil, us army, japan and canadian goverment, so on.
I told you, gasoline is a tax and when the world will stop because of the bankrupcies of toyota, gm, ford, tata, freightliner, caterpillar, chrysler, suzuki, nissan, mercedes, ferrari then the martians will keep their gasoline in secret place and their plant is that for having gas you will have to lick ass because the dollar will be bankrupt and of no value. Some bloggers here are already doing so to live.

What did any of that tirade have to do with building the 1.4L engine in an existing Flint plant? With such hate for the auto industry, I wonder why you would even be on this site. Anyway, there is a topic here. Try and hit it at least once.
Heavily reduced production costs yet still employing people in Michigan. That's exactly what the dissenters have been demanding.
