1936 Chevy Sedan gets the electric car conversion treatment [w/video]

Shade tree mechanics. A 1936 Chevy Sedan. Down home narrator vibe. Yup, this video from a local TV station in Oklahoma has got everything you might be looking for to prove that electric cars are as American as apple pie. Emissions and gasoline use, on the other hand, don't belong in this rewritten version of classic American cars. They are banished in favor of a recycled forklift motor and some truck batteries. This EV conversion, done near in Oklahoma City, has created a car called the DC Cruiser. The Cruiser can go about 20 miles on a charge using a 10-inch electric motor coupled directly to the transmission, there is no clutch, and has about 50 horsepower. Nothing fancy here, just a few older gentlemen who wanted to revive a classic - and make it better. Watch their story after the jump.

I like this idea a lot. My wife and I want a third car for running errands on weekends. I was thinking of converting an old pick up truck to electrical -- the torque would make a lot of sense for towing and hauling things from Home Depot. I don't care what the truck would look like, but this story inspires me to consider something Johnny Cash-esque.... "One Piece At a Time". A little of this, a little of that.
But...dude.... i Will NEVER put white-wall tires on it. EVER.

Man, you GOTTA have the whitewalls! :D
I want to do an EV conversion myself; and those older vehicles are pretty good for it. You can more easily beef up the rear suspensions just by adding a few leafs. Sometimes even the front suspensions.
Hmm... there's a '66 Fury nearby, the 440 can go into a Neon... plenty of room for batteries...

Please be informed that, I am glad to know that your technology can convert any car into electricity. I have been trying to do business since June 2008 after resigned from my job like agent of exporters and importers but now all want to do business directly other than through an agent and did not find anything yet but I believe your technology will bring fortune for me. So please cooperate me to implement this system in our country because most of the vehicles are run by (COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS) CNG and fuel. So if we both can do good business as you know our country is not rich and can't effort fuel in high cost other side our gas is not sufficient. I hope to get your answer and support to implement this system in our country.
Regards.

I wish they would've picked something from at least the late 40's, these cars with the pointy hoods and the odd grills just look hideous to me (see: PT Cruiser). Still, it's nice that they decided to restore it as an EV.
