CA Gov. Schwarzenegger coming to Detroit for SAE World Congress
Dr. David Schutt, EVP and Chief Operating Officer of the Society of Automotive Engineers, today announced that California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger would come to Detroit on April 20. Schwarzenegger will deliver an opening keynote address to the SAE World Congress, the annual gathering of mobility engineers from around the world. Schwarzenegger has been a strong proponent for green mobility in recent years (he used to have another persona) as well as a vocal supporter of his state's request for a waiver from the EPA that would allow it to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. The governor will address the gathering at 8 a.m. Monday April 20, 2009 in the AVL Technology Theater on the show floor. The Congress takes place in Detroit's Cobo Center from April 20-24 this year. Schutt told the media in attendance at a preview today that SAE invited the governor to address the conference, but was not scripting his speech. SAE does not know what Schwarzenegger will say. The society has long been involved in setting industry standards. However, according to Schutt, SAE does not have a formal position one way or the other on the California waiver request.

Great to see a Governor seriously take on environmental issues with determination.

I voted for this guy and have supported much of his agenda, but make no mistake, he is an ambitious politician with national aspirations, that has never seen a camera he didn't like.

And this camera spotted him at the Geneva Motor Show last week, examining the all-electric Ford Tourneo developed by Smith Electric Vehicles. A 5-8 seat passenger vehicle which will go into production quickly if enough interest is shown.

Smith (new US website at http://www.sev-us.com ) has been weighing offers from several states, as to where its US factory will be, and was thought to be announcing its decision last week. This morning they say a decision is delayed till later this month.
Has Arnie put in a late bid for California?

He can have all the national aspirations he wants...he's a foreign born US citizen, and thus, ineligible to be President or a member of Congress.
Also, prior to being elected Governor of California (where else...Minnesota, MAYBE), his personal vehicle fleet averaged about 6 mpg. Welcome to political expediency, California style.

Governor, how about spending a little more time at home-maybe you could help figure out how to pay me the state tax refund that I and millions of Californians are owed?
