Green vehicles transport stars to The Age of Stupid red green carpet

The Age of Stupid had its premiere last night in the UK and, as was befitting a movie about global warming, attendees of the event arrived by green means including solar-powered car, bicycles, rickshaw and Tesla Roadster. Such was the concern for the modes of transportation used that guests were specifically asked not to fly in for the screening. The movie was shown in a solar-powered cinema tent and beamed to 64 theaters across the UK via satellite as organizers hoped to host, not only the greenest movie premiere, but also the largest.
The drama-documentary-animation was filmed over 4 years in 7 countries and is set in 2055. It features Peter Postlethwaite as an old man living alone in a devastated world looking back at our present time and asking why we didn't do anything to stop climate change when we had the opportunity. Profits from ticket sales are going to the Not Stupid climate campaign which aims to turn millions into climate activists to put pressure on decision makers at the UN Climate Summit being held this coming December. The Age of Stupid will be released in the UK March 20th while us blokes on the American side of the pond must wait until April 9th. Hit the jump for Channel 4 coverage of the premiere as well as an official trailer. Thanks to Anthony for the tip!

FYI, the solar car mentioned and pictured is 'Affinity', developed by Cambridge University Eco Racing (Website: http://www.cuer.co.uk)
Affinity was the first solar car to drive legally on UK roads last summer as it toured from Land's End to John O'Groats, visiting schools and public attractions along the way. The CUER team is currently making a much more advanced solar vehicle for competition in the World Solar Challenge in Oct 2009.

After the event, all the stars jumed on their private jets and when home to their 35,000 sq ft mansions, and were grateful that their air conditioning had kept their two dogs and a cat comforable while they were away.

That movie is a remake of Harry Harrison's 1966 Sci-Fi novel entitled "Make Room,Make Room!"and the 1973 movie with Charlton Heston and Edward G Robinson.

The really scary thing is that the Oceans really are dying.

After watching trailers, reading reviews and getting frustrated with their horribly designed website...
Looks like another alarmist flick that tries to scare people into "environmentalism" by appeal to emotion and skewed facts. Environmentalism needs those as much as people need a second rectum.
"asking why we didn't do anything to stop climate change"
This sentence alone makes me want to puke.

You're going to puke? Why? You really thing we've begun to curb c02 emissions? I see way too many oversized, inefficient vehicles on the road and not enough solar panels on roofs. I'm not criticizing you, just the country as a whole. The whole green movement has been a facade thus far.
DasBoese 10:36PM (3/17/2009)
What makes me want to puke is the arrogant notion that we will be able to "stop" a natural process that has been going on for billions of of years and will go on for billions of years, which we have yet to fully understand and determine how big of an impact anthropogenic CO2 emissions really make.
And just so you don't explode because I dare question global warming, or if human CO2 emissions are responsible:
That does NOT mean I'm against reducing CO2 emissions. Just because we don't know for sure doesn't mean the possibility isn't there. That alone is reason enough to act.
You're not going to change people by scaring them into submission with unrealistic horror-scenarios, holier-than-thou preaching and outright lies.
THAT is the problem of the green movement.
You motivate people to change by offering them practical solutions and showing tangible benefits of green technology.

Hopefully more people will fly to London to see movies. It saves the planet.

Hopefully they'll show the movie in our theaters as well. It seems like an interesting flick/documentary.

Hopefully every star will fly to London and then get on a bike when they are within a block of the theater. Then they can pontificate and bask in their own self-righteousness.

"You motivate people to change by offering them practical solutions and showing tangible benefits of green technology." If this statement is true, then we are all screwed. I can offer people practical solutions to help quit smoking and showing the health benefits of not smoking, but somehow the world is still full of smokers.... The world is full of people who think that water fluoridation is a government conspiracy to poison them, that vaccines that have saved millions of lives and prevented diseases from Smallpox to Polio are a drug company conspiracy to make money, etc. etc. When it comes to public policy, if we have a policy, we have to create it based on the general consensus of educated individuals operating in their fields of specialty. If you want to know if water fluoridation is good or bad, maybe we should find out what the majority of dentist think... if its vaccines, find out what the majority of doctors think. When we are talking about global warming or carbon emissions, we should probably go with the majority of climatologists, instead of surveying the common folk who also might believe that bigfoot is real and the moon landing was fake.
