Dundee Michigan engine plant gets Clean Corporate Citizen award

The Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance factory in Dundee, Michigan has received a Clean Corporate Citizen award from the state's Department of Environmental Quality. The plant, which is a joint venture between Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai, produces four cylinder engines used by all three automakers. The award recognizes the building techniques used in originally setting up the factory before it started operations in 2005 as well as the ongoing efforts to reduce energy consumption, keep the surround area as much like it was as possible, and not sending any materials to land fills.

They save all the waste and put it directly into the automobiles they produce. (Hyundai, you're presently excused from this bashing.)

GEMA also operates an engine factory that as "clean room" in design as chip fabricators.
Incidently in addition to clean factory awards such as this, the GEMA factory has won awards for producing the least expensive engines, of comparable I-4s, in the USA.
Designed with standard automated tooling and robot transfer machinery, instead of specialized tranfer machines, the plant can produce several different engines on the fly with as small a lot sizes as one engine, at no loss in speed or productivity. Truly unique.
Modern manufacturing at its finest !
