Loremo EV goes for its first drive [VIDEO]

The first running prototype of the German Loremo has achieved its road-worthiness certificate and has hit the road in its home country. Loremo is working on three different powertrains - gas, diesel and electric - and has entered the diesel version in the Automotive X-Prize. That competition is still shaping up, so Loremo's first car to hit the road is the battery-powered variant. The first prototype went for a ride around town recently and the video is now available. You can check it out after the jump.

Nice looking car. I wish it was commercially available.

and how about the way the weight shifts when the driver brakes. Definitely not ready for prime time.

The company changed its plan for the motorisation this year. The development and the environmental restrictions of diesel-engines are to expensive. For now Loremo plans an electric variant and two variants powered by gasoline (700ccm and and two gas-versions 850ccm). The smaller gas-variant is supposed to consume about 2 Liters per 100km which is equivalent to 120 Miles/Galon! The car will hit the market next year and I am desperatelly waiting for it.

The concept is fantastic - todays cars are so bloated and ugly. For efficiency, what ever the power source, we need to quote the designer of the first jet Airliner Sir Geoff DeHaviland "ADD LIGHTNESS!" and use Aerodynamics fully.
Loremo is doing more than most and they deserve our support.
As gridlock and anti road building pressure groups increase, average speeds reduce world wide - a big part of the solution is smaller cars.
