Shanghai 2009: Geely IG concept would make a great EV

One of the most interesting concepts at the 2009 Shanghai Motor Show is the Geely IG Fantastic. We're happy to report that the car's styling is unique and doesn't appear derivative of any other designs. The seating position is also rather interesting, with the driver sitting right in the center of the cockpit with two passengers slightly behind on each flank. A single door allows entry from the passenger side. Currently, the concept is powered by a four cylinder engine, but, naturally, we've also heard rumors of a possible electric drivetrain.
Running down the center of the car's hood and roof are solar panels that are reportedly capable of powering the vehicle's climate system, which also saves energy by using waste heat from the IG's drivetrain. We're not sure exactly how the cooling system works, but it's apparently been inspired by the thermal management system of your computer's CPU. All in all, the IG Fantastic is an impressive concept vehicle.

FIRST! :)
The "center driver / 3 seat layout" might seem new and unique. But I suggest that you consult some of the designs for The Air Car.

Translation: We have fitted two 80mm f12v an on the dash board powered by the solar panels in the roof.

Isn't it derivative of the Fiat 500?

Hi,
I like it -- I heard this morning on the radio (NPR) that this model IS electric. Here's lots more photos: http://jalopnik.com/5221220/geely-ig-fantastic-concept-solar-cells-meet-micro-car

Hmm. No gas, no tailpipe, no doors.
If I could teleport myself into this car, why would I need one? ;)

Hello Ernie,
It does have one door on the right side -- it is a gull wing. I first heard that this was an EV (on the radio), so that would explain the lack of a tailpipe and no gas filler, too.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get the joke. :)

For a while it irritated me that JOe AmeRica feels the need to slam anything too new- or simply Chinese- that, because it has 4 wheels, a grill, a steering wheel and a shape of any kind- JA labels a rip-off. Now I kind of enjoy all the senseless slamming. Geely is gearing up to steam-roll the US auto industry and JOe AmerRica is clinging to embarrassing pride gained from what?- ugly fuel guzzling Chryslers, unimaginative GM models, tepid Fords? Hats off to Geely, to Li Shufu. I for one would love to drive a Geely IG Fantastic.
