Back in January when General Motors rolled out the new 2010 Chevy Equinox, they announced the four cylinder version with the new 2.4-liter direct injected EcoTec was expected to get 30 mpg on EPA highway cycle. Since then, the powertrain engineers have continued to tweak the calibrations to eke out every last mile from every gallon of gas. The EPA is still finishing up its evaluation of the Equinox, but Chevy spokesman Brian Goebel sent out a note this morning that the latest internal tests at GM are showing the Equinox hitting 32 mpg on the highway cycle. In the city, the Equinox is expected to get rated at 22 mpg. Those numbers easily top competitors like the Honda CR-V at 20/27 city/highway mpg and the Toyota RAV4 at 22/28 mpg. The Equinox should be in dealer showrooms in June.

It's amazing what a little effed up economy and almost bankruptcy does.

#1 - Dumb comment. The 2010 Equinox is the result of several years of work. A screwed up economy didn't make improved mpg suddenly possible. The market demanded better mpg and they were working on it.

This will be perfect for GM, the highest mileage small SUV on the market just when gas prices start increasing - if they're smart they'll get the hybrid and plugin hybrid powertrain out of the Saturn Vue and in the Equinox ASAP.

This looks pretty nice on the outside and the interior looks really nice too!

It'll be even better when the 2010 1/2 upgrades are added. The Chevy badge will be replaced with a UAW label, and the cupholders will be downsized by Health and Human Services. No Big Gulp for you, prole!
Run down to your nearest Government Motors waiting room and get on the list, comrade!
Actually, as one of the last GM products designed by the free market, it should be pretty decent. It's all downhill from here....

credit goes to George Richard "Rick" Wagoner, Jr. He put right investments and was driving the company to the correct side. Unfortunately the New CEO gets the credits of poor Ricks efforts.
Volt, Plug-in 2 mode vue, Camero, CTS, new Malibu, and direct injected Equinox, upcomming cruze , Traverse, 2 mode Tahoe, silverado -- all from his term and work.
Still i don't know why Obama asked him to step down.

Bob (most people on this blog like to hate) Lutz was the man Rick Wagoner brought on board to rekindle GM's flame, and he accomplished his task. Obama ran Wagoner off because he was "sending a message", like the clowns in Congress who castigated the car CEOs for flying in corporate jets. The numbskulls have just about driven a stake into the heart of private aviation. The world's biggest private jet was seen zipping around the skys over NYC - only the annointed (Congress, Senate and Pres) should fly is the message I'm hearing.
So now the CEO of a company in crisis must DRIVE to his destination.

My 2010 Equinox (after proper break-in time) gets 25mpg highway. I'm a little disappointed.

Our 2010 Equinox misses the mpg mark by a mile. We get about 18-19 city and on a recent 2 tank highway trip only managed 24 mpg. WTF???????????? We went with a smaller engine this time around in hopes of beating the high gasoline costs, but we may as well have opted for the V-6. Just how high of a tail wind do they wait for when they do these tests? Seriously, I am very disappointed in an otherwise nice vehicle.

It's about time an American car MFG. did something right. Their only about 25 years behind Honda. I have owned 5 Honda's and they all gave me 30+ mpg. OH, I'm sorry I forgot they are NOT American made, or are they? Maybe the threat of bankruptcy is just what GM and the UNIONS needed to produce a real car.
