Toyota launches "Build Your Prius" minisite

Much has been made over the past few months regarding the pricing differences between the new Toyota Prius and its chief rival from Japan, the Honda Insight. As you're surely aware by now, Honda decided the world really wanted a less expensive dedicated hybrid hatchback, while Toyota went all out on technology and features in its bid for hybrid supremacy. Curious exactly how much all of that stuff will cost you?
Wonder no more. Toyota has officially launched the online configurator for the 2010 Prius, which allows you to create your own hybrid with exactly the options you want and find out just how much it's going to cost. For what it's worth, we created our own Blue Ribbon Matallic 2010 Prius III with the Solar Roof and Navigation option package and Remote Engine Start, which allows the driver to cool the cabin down using the air conditioning before entering. Total cost after delivery: $27,879. Thanks for the tip, Bill!

I tried to spec out a Prius III with the solar roof option the other day, and even though it's supposed to be available, it doesn't show up as an option on the Prius III. It does on the Prius IV though. Anyone know what's up with that?
I just tired again today, and still it doesn't have the solar roof option. I can't do a Prius IV because that comes with leather, and I don't do the rotting corpses thing.

The solar roof option is present on the Prius III when I tried it. Maybe it's not available in your zip code?
I personally am pleased that the Prius II trim level has all the features I want, and none that I don't (I also refuse to buy tortured animal flesh). I must admit I'm getting pretty interested in picking one up. But it's still hard for me to imagine paying the huge premium for a new car, when used cars are such a better value.

I was able to build it with a moonroof on a III in zip code 80005. It is an option on III and IV. Check "Options and Accessories" tab and then "Options" tab. I had trouble with this website because I have "Internet Explorer 8" and I think it is not compatible with it yet so I just clicked on "Page" and then "Compatiblity View" and it started working OK.

this is totally stupid... the solar roof isn't available in California, but it is in Illinois?!?

"Create (my) own hybrid with exactly the options (I) want", eh? How about unbundling the solar roof from the nav and offering the roof on all tiers. THAT'S what I want, Toyota. No matter how good the nav software is, having an overpriced nav in my car when I already have a perfectly good one in my phone is a redundant expense.

Yes, I also don't understand. Here in the bay area, ca zip codes, i can only get the solar roof with the IV package rather than the III package. That seems quite stupid. If they are trying to make people in CA pay more i'm definitely pissed about that. I would like to know how far I need to go to get the solar roof on the III package?

At this rate, it will be another three (or more) months before it is available in Oklahoma. Le sigh...

Add me to the list of not wanting leather. Not for animal rights reasons, though I am not a fan of leather, fur or factory farming, but I eat meat. But I prefer cloth, it doesn't get too hot or too cold. I never understood why somebody would want a a seat they will stick to in the summer.
I also kind of like the idea of LED lights just from a tech gadget point and you can only get that on the high end model.
I could do without the navigation system, though the parking assist would be cool... again from a tech gadget point of view. :)

Very interesting. I'm in Long Island, NY, and I can NOT get, apparently, a moon roof with the IV. I've been trying to figure out what the differences are between the II and III, and their site is not very helpful.
