Ready for Lutz's appearance on Letterman tonight?

We're going to make a prediction right here and now: Bob Lutz's appearance on Dave Letterman tonight will result in at least two choice quotes. Granted, we're not exactly going out on a limb here, since the stage has been so perfectly set for a great bit of drama. Step one, Letterman loves Elon Musk from Tesla and tears the Volt a new one on national TV; step two, Bob Lutz and the rest of GM get a bit peeved; step three happens tonight. With all of this backstory and Lutz's history of picking the perfect phrase to get our attention ("crock of s**t," anyone?), how can Lutz's seven minutes or whatever not give us something head-smackingly good?
While we wait for the big appearance, the Detroit Free Press has put together a top ten list of things that Letterman should know about the Volt. Some are good ("Jay Leno wants one.") and some are not exactly Volt-specific ("Danica Patrick will look great in one."), but they all point to the excitement in Detroit about Lutz's latest turn in the spotlight.

Well, he was right. Man made global warming is a crock. It is a government scam meant to control the masses and give the government more power.
If the planet is warming it is a natural cycle.

I can see the hot air coming from your mouth as you type. Maybe you are the problem.
You sir are an idiot.

So you think the government should OWN carbon emissions? If I am an idiot, then you have been institutionalized. Good for you.

Well if they aren't lying about their new missle's range, looks like Iran will be an experiment in anthropogenic global cooling (AGC).

Whether global warming has been helped along by man or not, it most certainly is going to be bad for mankind. Bad enough that we need to take any steps we can to make sure we're *not* helping it along. Besides, with all the side benefits that we will reap, like not poisoning the air we have to breathe, and not wasting trillions to fight stupid wars over oil, it's well worth doing, and if we *can* slow global warming down, it may very well save much of human life on Earth.
As for Lutz, look at the company he worked for for all those years. He should STFU and be glad he has a pension to fall back on. I hope Dave rips him a new one tonight.

Dave? Is Dave your automotive mediator? That's a new low.
Dave was once funny has hell. His time is past. His little Tesla promo turned into a baseless attack against GM. Dave claimed to have done some research on the Internet, but it couldn't have been more than five minutes worth.
If you insist upon having this battle fought on late night talk shows, move it to Leno. At least he has a clue (which he often sets aside for the purpose of a cheap joke).

In the Volt-Tesla controversy, the bottom line is Tesla has competent (albeit pricey) EVs for sale NOW!!!!! Yes, in 2009!
Volts may be available some time in the future (if GM can avoid collapse).
The Volt looks like a better choice for most motorists, but you can't buy one!
Timing is everything.

Ford had them for sale in 1998. Others (GM?) beat Ford to the punch. You can also pick up EVs from little guys (ex LionEV) with lithium ion batteries .

Kinda hard to buy a Tesla right now too. Easier than buying a Volt though.
You're right. Timing is everything. I'm curious to watch it all unfold.

I guess I really don't understand why it takes the big companies so long to bring a product to market, when these struggling start up companies consistently beat them to the punch. People respond that these things have not been well accepted by the public when they were tried in the past, but things have changed, permanently. When gas got up over $5/gal last year here (Orleans Ca consistently has the highest fuel prices in the Nation) people got the message. It's $2.95/gal again now and going up. Also, in the back of our minds now the the concept of social responsibility keeps creeping in. Everyone is an environmentalist. No one wants to see crashing ecosystems.
