Rumormill: 2012 Honda Civic details circulate

According to an article in Mag-X magazine (via Temple of VTEC), Honda is hard at work wrapping up the design for the next-gen Civic that's expected to debut in 2011 as a 2012 model. As is customary from Honda, the Japanese, European and North American markets are all expected to get their own unique versions of the popular Civic, with Americans getting their preferred sedan and coupe bodystyles and the other countries each receiving differing takes on the hatchback theme.
As you would expect, there will be a hybrid version of the 2012 Civic, and it's again slated to get a 1.5-liter gasoline-powered engine mated up with Honda's Integrated Motor Assist technology. This powerplant will reportedly be shared with the upcoming CR-Z hybrid hatchback where it will be available with either an automatic CVT transmission or six-speed manual.
Hopefully, we'll see how accurate all of this is when the Tokyo Motor Show rolls into town this October, where a production prototype of the 2011 CR-Z is expected to be shown. Thanks for the tip, Jason!

Beautiful design, hopefully it really looks like that. I'm looking for a new car around 2011-2012 I would buy that.

I'm not a fan of the rims, they look like giant gears.

Honda, Just give us the damn civic hatchback this time. Hatchback are in again. I won't buy a car without a hatch. I won't even test drive a car without a hatch.

Since I walk to work and drive at times of my choosing, I value open road performance more. I want good highway MPG and no high RPM engine buzz at highway speed. I am only interested in manual transmission cars.
The Fit is too short geared buzzbox that doesn't get near the MPG it should ( the civic gets better on the highway).
The insight is a smushed fit with a horrid CVT.
Accord wagon? We are getting that, or some kind of SUV wannabe Venza clone?

My 1983 Honda Civic got 36 mpg, had no problems when I gave it away at 277,000 mi so I could get a vehicle with airbags. It was 8.3" off the ground, so they could plow the road when I was gone, and I could still drive over the snowrow to get back up my driveway. It was short enough I did not have to plan to get to meetings in town 1/2 hr early to find a parking spot.
This is a quarter of a century later. I want a 160" long hatchback, 8.3" off the ground, airbags front, side, knee, passenger, everywhere, that gets 50 mpg in the city, more on the highway.
TOYOTA TERIO HAS THIS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES. The closest thing to it in the US is the Toyota Rav 4. The interior cannot compete with a Honda. My cat has fuzzed and punctured the upholstery everywhere, This would not have happened with a Honda interior.
The Honda Civic Hatchback could comfortable seat 4 people. It had all of these characteristics, except the airbags, and the improved milage. Twenty-five years later, this is available outside the US. Let's get it here.

CRZ in a 6 speed tranny? That's the first time I ever heard that...I hope it's true and I hope the author of this article has a source for that

nm the vtec article said that. The abg article made it sound like common knowledge that it's 6 speed.
