MINI asks drivers to hang up the keys and not drive on June 5th

If you're a Mini owner or an enthusiast, why not leave your car in the garage on June 5th? This may sound unusual for a car company, but its exactly what Mini is asking. The company has named that day, "Let's not motor day," although the official name, courtesy of the UN, is World Environment Day. On this day, Mini says that we should "take the pedal off the metal, buckle down instead of up" and "burn calories instead of fuel." A special MINI site for Let's not motor day also includes suggestions such as creating a walking pool and ahs a section where you can pledge how many miles you aren't going to drive that day. So why not join them? Hat tip to JayP.

This is great news. I'm going on a road trip to a car show on June 5 with my grandson and thousands of other car fans. We could have the highways to ourselves if enough greenies buy into this latest scam from the UN.
Please pay attention folks. The UN is trying to get you used to taking orders from a central government that you didn't elect, thereby increasing their control of your life. You will see more of these UN days, weeks, months, years until you become a boiled frog. End it now. Go for a drive and leave the lights on at home.

JohnZ, you fool, you have ruined everything - you've disclosed our previously secret U.N. plan which was intended to help establish a worldwide central government. You can expect one of our black helicopters to pay you a visit any day now. Don't bother trying to hide. We know where you are.

Do you really think that people will pay attention to that. It is going to take a lot to make many of the people of America listen. No one trusts our government anymore and will continue to do what they want until everyone starts getting locked up and put away in some prison.

Sounds like your the one who has been brain washed by a similarly sinister force as the " central government" in your paranoid fantasy. You should be glad some of us still care enough to try to fix the mess that selfish, narrow minded, ignorant, old school morons like you have made of this planet. I can just imagine what kind of a polluting, destructive behemoth you are driving. BIG CAR-LITTLE BRAIN!

What bull crap you speak! You don't get it yet, do you? The ice caps are melting...have you not seem the photos? And by the way, the earth is also round because I suppose you still believe it's flat also. It's people like you who so stubbornedly hold onto what they want to believe that make it harder on the rest of the world to try to deal with this problem. Wake up and stop being so damn stupid!!!

I noticed that the message seemed to be referring only to mini cars. WOW that means I can drive my 22 year old car to the store if I need to. "Bessie " is still getting 22 mpg. HMMM or maybe I will just walk.

Depends on if its raining.
I mostly walk between sites at work anyway, but if its raining I get under a roof.

I would but we live 30 miles away from the kids school. It's a great school for my son who has Autism. Now if it was any day after the 5th of June........ that is their last day of school LOL

It would be wonderful if everyone could do this, but, as a 20 mile to work person, I have to go. It is unrealistic to expect anyone that lives out of town to be able to do this, but more of a shot if you tried to do it on a Sunday. People CAN worship at home.

here's a better idea, just don't buy gas that day and if enough people do it perhaps we can bring about another round of lower gas prices

that sounds good but by not buying gas for just one day the only people you hurt are the small buisness owners not the gas compinies they have already been paid for the gas so they don't care you will only get it the next day...

GREAT IDEA!!!!!! AMEN

I agree with you Sheila. I think we should devote one day a week, say a Thursday, where we will pledge (across the country) to not buy gas, not for mowing lawns, road trips, NOTHING, Let the gas hoses go swinging, because we will not be pumping... this means EVERYONE, do not buy gas. You'll watch these gas company moguls curl up like boiled shrimp, if not one gallon of gas was pumped, and it would bottom out at something below a dollar. THe only thing driving up gas prices is the futures market. These futures brokers are betting (with our money) that we will loosen up our wallets and go to the beach, the amusement park, or what have you. I'm not saying don't go, just don't go on the day you don't pump gas... plan ahead if you know you need to be someplace... You guys probably don't even remember when stores were actually closed on Sunday...
