Spy Shots: 2010 BMW 755iH spotted in the wild
BMW will be launching its first two production hybrid vehicles late this year and some spy shots of the first one have turned up in Germany. The 755iH, as the name implies, is a gas electric version of the recently launched 7-Series sedan. While the upcoming X6 uses the two-mode hybrid system, the 755 pairs up BMW's 4.4-liter twin turbo V8 with the mild hybrid system developed with Daimler. The 755 looks pretty much the same as the standard 750 but this particular example has the usual accouterments that go with a development prototype including the lap stand in the front passenger area, extra power ports under the dash for data loggers and other test equipment. There is also a fire extinguisher by the driver's door. The only external indication is the experimental hybrid bumper sticker.
The hybrid system uses a 20 kW electric motor between the engine and 8-speed automatic transmission. A lithium ion battery will provide electrical energy storage.

I think it is a very big stretch to call a 300 kW ICE with a 20 kW motor a hybrid. At most, you might call it a start-stop system.

BMW: Your Oil Industry Money is showing. There really needs to be a government investigation here. Hydrogen is still dead. BMW shareholders need to ask why is BMW still funding this project.
Also, let's take a look at the 2009 US Sales lineup for BMW, and play the GAME "WHERE'S THE DIESEL"? You can only find 1 diesel model, on the X5. So, BMW is "green", phew, I though they were only going to make an embarrassing half-hearted attempt to get a high MPG diesel into the US market. I thought they'd bury the technology on a model that's heavy, with AWD, that would be INCAPABLE of showing the MPG improvement a new diesel can make. Boy, was I wrong.

That's not quite accurate regarding the diesel models of BMW available in the US. The most popular BMW model sold is the 3-series, which is now available in a diesel. The X5 and 3-series are the two top selling models, so it makes sense to provide diesels first for these in the US (where diesels have not historically sold well).

I stand corrected.
Yes, out of 13 models in the 3 series line up, there is now a 335d.
Thanks.

Well sadly bmw does not bring its diesels here in the States. Every model has a diesel in europe. 1 series diesel 5 door or coupe. 3 series diesel , 5 series diesel, 6 series diesel, and even a 735d. And even Jag has a diesel of all their models except the 2 door ones. People in the united states see the diesel prices and they think oh its too much. Back in the 70s and 80s most diesels were loud and belched black smoke. A lot of americans just dont want diesels because of past conceptions. I would really personally love a 120d coupe .. get s 53 mpg man. We do need more european diesels here. Hopefully we will by 2012... :(
