Bad news from Dutch EV entrepreneur Duracar, manufacturer of the Quicc Diva: The company that owns Duracar, Econcern, is shutting down because it can't repay part of its $1 million debt. And there's more: Duracar's founder, Paul Hamm, is considering filing a lawsuit against Econcern, as he traded Durcacar shares valued at $30 million against Econcern just to find out a month later that the shares didn't have the promised value. It's still unclear how Econcern's problems might affect Duracar, but there are rumors that it could be bought by an automotive industrial group.

More doom and gloom. We nearly need a blog just for the amount of companies closing down this year. Hopefully the technology would be put to use anyway in another car.

This just proves once again how tough it is to get a new auto company off the ground. After years of reading blogs with all these press releases that never fully materialize, I've learned to be realistic about claims that XYZ Motors is planning on producing 20,000 EVs in 2010.
I do hope some other company can buy this concept up -- it looked promising as an inner-city delivery van that could still travel on the highway.

Part of the reason for their bankruptcy was that they were making portable lavatories on wheels, not cars.

They could be bought by Karmann, they already manufacture the car.
But any buyer is fine as long as it keeps the technology from being lost.
