Enter the rumormill: Dacia to produce low-cost Smart competitor?

The smart fortwo, Toyota iQ and VW Up! are surely good ideas: they represent the just about the smallest cars possible for effortless city and suburban driving. However, if you follow their European prices, you'll know they are on the expensive side of the lists. These urban cruisers might soon be challenged from a cheaper, small alternative.

A Romanian site has published photos of what could be Dacia's city car. If this is so, the car would probably cost about half of those previously mentioned products. The platform could be related to or even the same as the rumored Renault model, although the image is based on the current Sandero. Nevertheless, the site mentions that it could host Reanult's new 0.9 liter TCe engine, which promises the same power output as a 1.4-liter powerplant.
