Congratulations! Rise in CO2 emissions halved

Congratulations! You've done it! Your hard work and effort to reduce your carbon footprint last year has paid off and, we would like to think, Planet Earth is just a little bit happier to hear that the worldwide rise in CO2 levels slowed by half in 2008. Now, we understand that just slowing the rate means CO2 levels are still increasing but you have to slow down and stop before you can go in reverse. We are also aware that a large part of the decline has to do with the high price of oil and the global economic slowdown which has had negative effects on lots of people, but if there is a silver lining to those financial storm clouds to be had, this may well be it.
The good news comes to us via a study by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) which points out that the use of biofuels and an increase in the use of renewables has helped achieve the encouraging result. It's also worth noting that America actually reduced emissions by 3 percent and that the continuing increases are mostly occurring in developing countries. One final positive worth underlining is that 2008 was the first year investment in renewables was greater than investments in fossil-fuelled technologies. So, keep it up and hopefully we'll have an even better result to celebrate next year!

I'm glad to hear this! It's important to hear these kind of news sometimes. Thanks Domenick for sharing with us!

This makes a LOT of sense!
If a global recession halved the human parasite’s C02 emissions, just think... a global DEPRESSION would reverse the entire C02 problem and it would also starve a few hundred million people so those who are left can work toward a more sustainable future on “mother earth”.
Now that’s "progressive", right comrades?
Seig heil. Seig heil to the State. Seig heil to Obama our lord and savior!

Um... wow. Guess you are still really bummed out about that whole election thing, eh?
And a bit foggy on history too.

bvz.
This is for YOU, bud:

(sounds like you need a little education and a knowledge that history often repeats itself)
bvz 1:44PM (6/28/2009)
Yeah, I noticed you liked wikipedia from some of your other posts.
I'm not going to get too much deeper into it because I think we are both pretty set in our thinking and this becomes a pretty big waste of time (though, I think you would agree, strangely satisfying in it's own way) but...
you might consider looking up "causal relationships". You (via wikipedia) suggest a causal relationship between sustainable forestry and the murder of over 6 million people and the advent of a world war. I suspect that with your comment about "history repeating itself" that you are suggesting that anyone who supports sustainable forestry is also well on their way to genocide. You can connect those dots if you wish (hell, you can connect a chair to space travel... they both involve sitting afterall), but it does not mean you understand the relationship between the two. Nor does it imply, as you do, that you have any understanding of the history involved.
Ultimately, the problem with quick, uncritical access to facts is that, without context, they are meaningless. Did you know, for example, that the Nazi's also used telephones?
ZOMG! (claps hands to mouth, eyes wide open) I'll bet YOU have a telephone! Welcome to the discussion, Adolf. :)

Oh, snap. Not.
I just love it when right wing ditto heads can't even spell their put downs correctly. It just like putting up a sign that they are so ignorant and lazy that they cannot even get the spelling and that everyone is a communist or Nazi because they are rational. They just demonstrate the Mark Twain quote:
"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." -

Funny, these Limbaugh crackpots showing up here...
These guys must hold oil or coal stock. That's the only way you could have any motivation to not notice a world water shortage, a peak oil run up in prices, a peak water shortage and now a peak Fish shortage. There's a correlation here, but it's not with Nazi Germany. It's with World Population. You can't jump world population from 1 billion to 6 billion in 200 years and not have problems.
But, these guys have their Coal Stock to protect so they pray Rush can convince us with his BS, distortions, Straw men, and out right lies. Rush, the Rear End Kisser to the Aristocracy, will Save Us!

Wow Tim...you're an idiot at the very least.
Let's hope that global warming takes you out while you are contemplating how much better the world will be with more consumption, waste, pollution.
After all, what a bunch of fascists we are for wanting cleaner air to breath, better quality of food, a planet we can leave our children....you know crap like that.
What a douche.

Conservatives (not NeoCons) debate policies.
Progressives/liberals/socialists/statists/fascists/communists or whatever you're calling yourselves today attack people because you can NOT defend your bankrupt policies.
This fact tell all!

Bip-D-Bo.
I totally agree. This is a good place to state your opinions backed up by facts, but leave the personal attacks to the playground.
Unfortunately, many here don't have anything intelligent that can be backed up by FACTS, say so they commit personal attacks like a 12 year old child.
It’s sad, really…
GoodCheer 10:40AM (6/29/2009)
Um.... point of order:
"Unfortunately, many here don't have anything intelligent that can be backed up by FACTS, say so they commit personal attacks like a 12 year old child."
Isn't that a personal attack?

Looking at your previous posts there is really NO VALUE at all of what you contributed to this forum (yes, just click on your name to see). Are you only here to talk BS? I would suggest looking for another place that suits you better. Everyone would appreciate this. Thank you.

Whatever,
I find your post most interesting so let's analyze it together...
"Whatever" is a slang term meaning "Whatever you say." The term is also used to dismiss a previous statement and express indifference. It is sometimes only written as w/e, where the / indicates the beginning of the second word.
In the late 20th century and early 21st century, the word became a sentence in its own right; in effect an interjection, it is used as a powerful conversational blocking tool. [1] In the above examples, the first speaker is left without a convincing retort. Anything they do or say can simply be blocked by the retort of "whatever".
"Whatever" is often used by juveniles and others who have nothing to offer to the conversation, so they simply hide behind the word "whatever".
I find it interesting that you would use "whatever" as your "name". If you are NOT interested in learning anything and if you DON’T have anything to offer to the conversation, why do you post... anywhere?
bvz 1:52PM (6/30/2009)
Hey Tim,
Welcome back to the conversation, and thanks for the input on the word "whatever". I see your cut and paste skills are as excellent as always, though your powers of attribution seem somewhat lacking.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whatever_(slang)
In the future, you might consider the humble quote ("). From wikipedia (one of your favorites, am I right?)
"Quotation marks or inverted commas (informally referred to as quotes[1] and speech marks) are punctuation marks used in pairs to set off speech, a quotation, a phrase, or a word. They come as a pair of opening and closing marks in either of two styles: single (‘. . .’) or double (“. . .”)." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotation_mark
See what I did there? :)

Tiny tiny tiny step. Tiny. But a step none the less. And an actual 3% decline in the U.S.? Let's hope we can keep it up.

Dude, Paul, I'm totally with you on this one. Total B.S.
Remember the days when "climate change" by itself was enough to call B.S.? Man, were those some heady days. We had the most awesome denier meetings, and you can't deny it (ha ha)! Cindy brought her CO2 brownies while I mixed some HeadInTheSand cocktails. Then we'd circle up and sing "there's no proof" to the tune of Kum Ba Yah. It was a sad sad day when those "scientists" with their "degrees" and their "studies" and "data" had to go and ruin it.
But now we've got the whole "man made" preamble and I'm pretty sure happy days are here again! Everyone who was there before has switched over with us now. Everything old is new again! All we have to do is discredit the obviously biased scientific community with their vested interest in, um, tree futures. They are clearly agents of the new world order, flying around in their black helicopters and white coats and wearing storm trooper boots preparing to kill our freedoms (check with Tim above, he's got the whole connection with the genocide of 6 million human beings down, it gets fuzzy. I'm sure he could explain more). And they hate our freedoms too. And we gotta not let them indoctrinate our kids with facts. And Obama (grrr). And the bible.
Noz 12:46AM (6/29/2009)
Paul,
I can't believe people like you exist....talk about genetic anomalies.
