When Ford introduces the next-generation Focus in Europe next year it will be powered by the first of the company's new four cylinder EcoBoost engines. The engines will be built at the Bridgend in Wales starting with a 1.6-liter displacement. Like the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 now debuting in North America, the four has direct injection and turbocharging. Just as Volkswagen does with its similar 1.4-liter TSI engines, the EcoBoost engines will be available at several power levels. The first version, which has appeared this year in the Iosis-Max, Lincoln Concept C and Volvo S60 concepts, will be rated at 180 hp. Further versions will be available at 130 and 150 hp levels. The EcoBoost fours will also be paired up with the new PowerShift dual clutch gearbox. The EcoBoost and PowerShift will also be available here in the U.S. when the new Focus arrives for 2011.

This sounds like the Focus could end up being more fuel efficent then the Fiesta if they don't go all out with the power levels..
I've been waiting a year already now for the Fiesta, do I wait even longer for a Focus?

why not the LS2LS7? 12:34PM (6/29/2009)
Huh?
How does adding more power give a car better mpg?
It's heavier, it's more thirsty, it shouldn't be surpassing the Fiesta.

*If* they use the smallest of these engines the Focus would get nearly 20% better mileage with no or little loss in power, that could easily be enough to surpass the Fiesta with its standard engine despite what I imagine isn't that great a weight penalty

@ LS2LS7
Fiesta engine: apple
Ecoboost engine: orange
That is how you can get more HP and MPG.

Put the 180HP 1.6L in the Fusion and you've got a real winner.

How much torque? and what does the power curve (3-D please) look like.

Can these engines run on direct natural gas injection? I saw that they are also looking at direct Ethanol injection to boost economy.

I'm averaging about 42mpg's in my Fiesta. With this new technology I can't wait to see the improvement!

it makes sense. fiesta being a urban car, and a focus being a commuter car.

Put that little 180hp 180lb-ft torque screamer in the Fiesta and you'd really have something going.
