REPORT: Citroen planning super-miserly C6

For rather obvious reasons, most eco-friendly cars fall into the compact or subcompact category. The lighter the platform, the easier it is for automakers to eke out additional miles from each gallon of gas and therefore lower carbon emissions. According to a report from Autocar in the UK, though, Citroen is taking a different approach for a new high-efficiency version of its C6 executive saloon.
We're familiar with Peugeot-Citroen's new HYbrid4 powertrain system, which is currently slated for the Peugeot 3008 crossover for 2011, and it's this same drivetrain that's being touted for the C6 sedan. The French automaker's hybrid technology would reportedly bolt into the midsize car and replace the entire rear suspension assembly. Up front, a turbocharged diesel engine with 163 horsepower would be fitted with stop/start and mated up to a six-speed automated manual gearbox.
In addition to the high-tech drivetrain, the eco C6 would also get a series of aero tweaks that could include a full underbody tray and semi-enclosed rear wheels along with low-rolling-resistance tires. If there's any truth to these rumors, the new Citroen could be badged the CX in recognition of the automaker's flagship model first introduced in 1974.

Mid-size car? The C6 is huge according to European standards! Nice angle of attack though, clean up the bigger gas guzzlers first.
