eBay finds of the day: Vectrix maxiscooters

While it is quite sad to see electric scooter maker Vectrix balancing on the brink of bankruptcy, it should also be remembered that there's a silver lining to every cloud. In this case, quite a bit of silver. When the East coast company started to run into trouble late last year it had been in the midst of creating an extensive dealer network and had delivered bikes to stores all across the country. Many of those machines are still hanging around today, taking up space and waiting for customers with paychecks to take pity on them, while dealers are becoming more anxious to recoup something from their investment. As a result, eBay, that great surplus supermarket in the internet sky, has quite of few of the all-electric maxiscooters on offer with deep discounts.
For example, there is one listed in Hatfield Pennsylania, brand new in the box with a starting bid of $3,000 and a "Buy it now" price of $4,000. A far cry from the days when it required $11,000 to bring these babies home. Hit the jump for exclusive ABG video of a detailed run down of all the bike's features.

$3-4k is a LOT more reasonable but still overpriced and underpowered when compared to the highly efficient new EFI scooters. Kymco makes a 19hp 250cc that can run 90+mph while still returning 70+mpg for $4200msrp (most are going several hundred less)

why not the LS2LS7? 11:41PM (7/19/2009)
I believe I saw a guy doing 35 in the gutter on the road today. So sad. Make me a bike with decent range at 55mph (I might even take 45 in a pinch) and we can talk.

Er, I should have mentioned he was on one of these.

Did you note that this bike is easily capable of 55? In fact, it can get there in about 4 seconds.
Top speed is limited at 62 - though apparently that can be raised (esp. now that warranties are no longer a concern).

I have said to install a small high efficiency gasoline or diesel electric generator to these battery gadjet.

This is pretty much a 3k toy. It's fun to play around with but you cannot really expect it to replace any of your regular vehicles... NiMh batteries are dinosaurs now, and backfitting Li batteries and BMS may not be practical.

Expensive?
Here in Spain, one seconth hand Vectrix with 7,000 miles cost about 7,000 dolars, so 4,000 dolars are really, really cheap...send me two XDDD

Good thing they named it after a TAMPON. Pure marketing Maxi-genius, right there. I can't believe someone woke up, looked in the mirror & thought this name was a good idea. I really can't believe not one person in the company spoke up and said, "i'd love to have a job next year. can we call it something a little less doosh?". Jesus Crisco. I almost bought one of these things last year but didn't because of the stupid name. I could probably have explained to the guys why i bought a scooter(cool, it's electric) but I'd never escape without an ass whooping if I told them it was a "maxi scooter".
How many "Hummers" do you think GM would have sold if they'd marketed it as the "Summer's Eve"? Blowjob or doosh? Burn in hell, maxi dumb asses.

Er... Maxi-Scooter is the vehicle category the Vectrix competes in... not the name of the vehicle. It competes against the likes of the Suzuki Burgmann, Honda Silverwing etc... they're all maxi-scooters.

LOL, I was just thinking the same thing. I havent laughed that hard in a while.
What a total douche.
And to think that NATHAN spent all that time writing that pointless drivel when he could have been back at work licking envelopes.
