Prius takes out town's electricity, driver flees

Think all Prius drivers are goody two-shoes? Let this story from Ellington, Connecticut reshape your stereotypes. Sometime last night at around 1 a.m., someone managed to crash their Prius into a utility pole on Route 286. The pole was knocked over and the power went out at over 100 homes. The highway was also shut down. Accidents can happen to anyone, and we'll let the local news anchor's speculation that alcohol might be involved stand on its own – deer aren't exactly rare. Still, the suspicious part is that the driver abandoned the vehicle, which doesn't exactly imply reasonableness. State Police are looking for him or her using K-9 units and other means. Watch the video after the jump.
UPDATE: Driver has been identified.

Here is another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMDVMN2Wcxo&fmt=18 Electric motor saves his/her life since there was no gasoline engine to stall and die when doing a narrow escape from train tracks.
But overall, whether this is defensive driving indirectly encouraged by hybrid's recuperation braking, requiring you to think ahead a bit more or drivers' specific characteristics, Toyota Prius has the lowest personal injury insurance losses in its class:

Good news. Now we know that hybrids are becoming more mainstream.

So this somehow is news. Leave it to Fox to try and make it into a story. Someone crashes their car into a pole and flees. Big deal. This happens all the time. Who cares what car they drive...

This was not Fox News Channel, it was a news cast from a local station that is part of the Fox entertainment network, the same people who bring you the The Simpsons, That 70's Show and Fox sports.
