It's Friday: Children's song trying to kill the electric car

Music To Hate Electric Cars By - Click above to view the video after the jump
Every so often, a song comes along that demonstrates the incredible power the musical medium can have in provoking social change. Who can deny the positive effect that tunes like the Beatle's Give Peace a Chance or Bob Marley's One Love had on so many people? Now consider what could happen if that pentatonic power was somehow used for evil. Just as nuclear explosions can power cities but also destroy them (kind of like that evil parallel universe Spock), perhaps it's possible a seemingly innocent song can have the a strong negative effect. What if a children's ditty could somehow turn civilization against the electric cars that promise a low carbon future? We think it's possible.
Whilst stumbling about the Internet's video tubes, we happened upon the sorriest bit of refrain-driven rot that might ever have been written. Unfortunately, not only was it written, but it was also performed and recorded and now lurks just beneath the fingers of everyone presently tapping happily away at their computer keyboards. Yes, even yours. If you think you have the strength to resist its attitude-altering awfulness, hit the jump and, no wait, lower your volume and hit the jump and see if you can make it through 3 and a half minutes without collapsing in a writhing twisted heap on the floor. Afterwards, if you think yourself capable of typing, let us know if you think we're doomed.

"We're charging up the solar cell"?
Actually, I've heard worse "music." To each his own, I suppose.

I lasted 1:25 before my ears couldn't stand any more.

Meh... I've heard Bono sing worse.

Musically it sucks and srue's point about "charging up the solar cell" was exactly my thought when I heard that line. Whoever wrote this knows precious little about solar energy and how it works. But I sure don't hear this as any kind of anti-electric car musical abomination. It's just a musical abomination.

Perhaps they meant "charging FROM the solar cellS"

Sounds like ABG just found a theme song!
A song to "drive" people away.
Hey, it's Friday.

First 20 seconds not too bad.
I assumed (perhaps too forgivingly) that it was a musical shorthand meaning the CAR was charging up ON the Solar cells
I waited till after the song was over for the red Tesla.

If you are reading this, you aren't the target audience for this song.
So give these guys a break. It's not meant for you.
I hate to break it to you guys, but kid's songs all suck. If you are an adult and you find yourself rockin' out to the musical melodies of Barney songs, or The Wiggles, that's when you should start worrying.....

At least the Wiggles don't suck. My kids couldn't stand the gay purple dinosaurs, but they liked the Wiggles (& Veggie Tales) - and even I didn't hate them. But this - even they would have hated this.
I thought the song was supposed to be negative towards the electric car - or should the title have been Kids Song Trying to Kill Your Kids? Maybe it is (anti electric car) by the end, but I couldn't last that long.
Newman 11:30PM (7/24/2009)
Not at all detrimental. The kids loved it, one asked after the song - "when are going to get an electric car". Kids love this sort of stuff; they were going around beep beep after it.
Could be good for pester-power too.
I don't see or hear anything bad about this video; it is what it is, a very light and catchy tune and an overall positive message.

I agree. Actually, I like it. I wouldn't expect everyone to like it, but some of the reviewer's remarks are rather mean. Having a bad day, are we? :(

Awh, c'mon...it's a cute song....for kids!! I'd rather hear this in my electric car DVD that my kids would be watching then the barney one.

I wasn't aware that nuclear "explosions" could power cities... That would be one hell of an internal combustion engine!

Good song! Now I have to record it so I can play while I am driving my EV. I will honk the horn each time it says Beep, Beep!

"Just as nuclear explosions can power cities..."
Uh, perhaps you need to go learn some real science, not that political indoctrination that passes for science in schools these days. Nuclear explosions do not power cities. Nuclear *reactions*, properly monitored and controlled power cities. The material used in nuclear power plants does not have the capability to explode as it is. It has to be specially processed and enhanced to reach explosive *potential*. And even then, it doesn't "just explode".
