REPORT: With Fiat's help, Tata could sell the Nano in Latin America

We knew that the famous – and now available – $2,500 Indian car was heading to Europe and the United States. The next market where the world's cheapest car is going to be sold, thanks to help from Fiat, could be Latin America, according to a report in India Times.
As emerging markets, the countries of Latin America offer great potential for the Nano. Fiat is one of the most important auto markers working in South America and is already partnerign with Tata on engines and transmissions in India. Also, Maseratis and Ferraris (part of the Fiat Group) will be sold in India through the Tata network. What is not yet clear is exactly which model will be sold in Latin America: the U.S. version, the European one, the Indian model (unlikely, as Brazil requires mandatory airbags), or an altogether new Nano?

For the record, I'd just like to say I liked to old layout much better. This one if unnecessarily dark and grainy. The glossy navigation doesn't contrast well either, with the font or with it's background.

I have heard that it has been crash tested.
Has anyone seen a link to a video of the crash test?

The Tata Nano has cleared the crash test conducted at the MIRA centre. Seems like people are skeptical about the launch of Nano. Its true Nano cannot give the comfort of a luxury cars, but it has its own aura. And with a price tag of $2,500, you cannot expect world-class comfort. Nano is Everyman's dream.

It will probably be similar if not identical to the US and Euro versions, as making "customized" versions for each market raises costs unnecessarily. I'm predicting that Tata will not be shipping from India, transportation costs too much for such a cheap car. Instead, Tata will probably set up manufacturing somewhere in South or Central America, perhaps Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, Panama, or Mexico. Maybe even two manufacturing locations, if sales are good enough.
