Spy shots: BMW X6 hybrid spotted stateside
Although we've seen spy shots of BMW's new X6 hybrid in Bavaria, we're new getting images of the vehicle stateside, with South Carolina plates. BMW's powertrain approach for this model is more evolved than the relatively simple stop & start systems that populate most 4-cylinders in Europe. It's a powered with a 4.4-liter engine mated to the two mode hybrid system that BMW co-developed with GM and Daimler. This should be good for a fuel efficiency increase of 20 percent compared to the "normal" version. The window sticker is also undergoing a bit of an increase: it is expected to be over $70,000 when the X6 hybrid arrives in early 2010.[Source: Hybridcars / Le Blog Auto]

Personally I would hold out for a year and get the Model S. Much better car.

The Model S might end up being a better car, but there's no way of really knowing since nobody has ever driven the production version. Also, this is an SUV, so they can't really be directly compared. Hopefully Tesla will start making the Model S soon so we can find out, though.

Another ridiculous hybrid-parody from the germans. Stay away from it.

Hey now, BMW SUV drivers want to save gas too. Even if it isn't the ideal EV that we all want, at least they're stepping in the right direction. Not everyone needs an SUV, but some people certainly do, otherwise they would never have become popular. Why not provide an aerodynamic hybrid option with some luxury for people to buy?

Makes sense that this would be sporting a South Carolina tag as BMW has a test track located in the upper part of the state (across the road from a Michelin test track). BMW also has an assembly plant in the area as well.
