REPORT: GM Environment VP Beth Lowery leaving
Beth Lowery is leaving General Motors and her position as Vice President, Environment, Energy, and Safety Policy. Over the last eight years Lowery has been GM's chief advocate on environmental policies and has spent much of her time working with government officials to help shape policies such as the national fuel economy standards. Lowery has also been a strong proponent for GM's advanced technologies both in Washington and at events around the country. In addition to promoting the expanded use of biofuels Lowery has also worked to convince the country that GM is serious about developing and building the Volt, including by saying that it could even turn a profit one day.
No reason has been given for Lowery's departure, although she is just one of many executives to leave the company in recent months as it has gone through bankruptcy. See also: Larry Burns.

"A strong proponent for GM's advanced technologies?"
You forget that she claimed on national TV that crushing all those EV1s was simply part of a "recycling" program --which is what GM does with all its vehicles when they "reach the end of their life cycle."
BYE, Beth!

Yep, what a genius this woman is:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/heat/interviews/lowery.html
------------------
PBS: Just for the record, why did you have to crush them? Why did you have to destroy them?
BL: Well, actually we have a number of them that are in museums and that are in universities. And then, with respect to some of them, we did recycle them, which is what we do with vehicles at the end of the life cycle.
PBS: So that was a recycling program?
BL: The electric vehicle, some of them, as I mentioned, are in museums, and some are in universities, and some went through the recycling process.
PBS: Which was crushing them for scrap, right?
BL: Yeah, absolutely.

I say good riddance.

JPM, We will keep deleting comments with that kind of language. If you want to be critical of someone you have every right too, but we will not tolerate pointless name calling here. If you persist you will be banned.

Mhmmm...Sam, maybe I should make clear that your comment is addressed to someone who kept posting insulting remarks at Ms. Lowery.
As for my "good riddance" comment, I'd like to nuance this by saying that I understand that she probably had *nothing* to do with any executive-level decision at GM and as such, was put in the position of having to keep a straight face while delivering the party line.
But to the extent that her title did not reflect her actions at GM, I'm glad that her position was cut. The "new" GM needs to be more straightforward from now on.

How does calling her a name affect YOU Sam?
I guess we know who pays Autoblog's paychecks now don't we.
As for her, perhaps a guilt riddled conscience finally caught up to her? I mean...going around the country and lying through those big white teeth about GM's pathetic environmental record, pathetic automotive quality record, and pathetic FAILED way of doing business and making crappy cars...that's HARD!

It has no affect on me. But it is our policy to try and keep things relatively civil around here. Vibrant discussion is encouraged, name calling is not.

Vice President, Environment, Energy, and Safety Policy. Hmmm wonder if I would sell my soul if I was making her kind of money. So the last eight years she has been suing CA for more lenient fuel economy standards, she has been promoting SUV's and Hummers as environmentally sound? She helped market vehicles that made energy prices soar.
Maybe here title is missing a "Anti" in the front of it. Vice President of Anti Environment, Energy, and Safety Policy. Love these titles that do the opposite of what they indicate.

Wow. Such angry little devils around here! It is hard to disagree with the claim that the whole Environment "climate change" anthro-global warming is a complete and utter FAILURE for sure. But that's what happens when you put greens in charge of business they don't have a clue about.
Buck up fellas and move on!
