We now know that electric cars can be fast, that much is for certain. The next logical question, then, is just how fast are they? The record for an electric car in the NEDRA street production, 349 nominal volts and above class currently sits at 12.643 seconds at 102.89 miles per hour, set by Scotty Pollachek driving the first 2010 Tesla Roadster Sport delivered to a customer. That's seriously fast.
Happily, that event was caught on tape along with a ton more images and videos from Pacific Raceways near Seattle. A total of five Tesla Roadsters (including the aforementioned Sport) were driven to the track that night and the results were impressive, to say the least. One of the hallmarks of a good drag racing platform is consistency, and as you'll see from the videos pasted after the break, that's something delivered in spades by these Roadsters. Viper beat it, but not by much. The sign will light up with the time, so just watch for which sign lights up first.

I was rooting for the TESLA until I saw that 2004 Mustang SVT Cobra...
...then I started to root for the Mustang.

To be clear, the NEDRA (National Electric Drag Racing Association) record was set at the Wayland Invitational IV at Portland International Raceways on July 24 & 25, not at Pacific Raceways on August 7th. The Wayland Invitational was a well-attended official NEDRA electric vehicle drag race event (along with the usual assortment of gas-burners), but the Pacific Raceways thing was just five of us going down to a test-and-tune event to try out the race track.
For what it's worth, I believe I set the record for a production non-Sport Roadster with a 12.982 second 1/4 mile ET at 103.48 mph in my 2008 Roadster at the Wayland event.

And all of this Tesla go is provided by stock unmodified cars. Just imagine what it would be like if these electric cars were setup for racing.

Good point Randy, the gas burners are all heavily modified, but the Teslas are stock.
And even then....Tesla beats most of them!

Better check the NEDRA for accurate records in the various classes before making a declaritive statement sabout records!!

That statement is accurate.
