BMW's first – and very possibly only – application of two-mode hybrid technology will be the new ActiveHybrid X6. The gas-electric crossover will go into production late this year and go on sale in the early part of 2010 pairing a hybrid transmission with a high output version of BMW's 4.4-liter V8. BMW has produced a video that demonstrates the X6 in action, showing the powerflows as it transitions between electric only, blended and brake energy recuperation modes. Speaking of electric only drive, the X6 will be able to operate in silent drive at speeds up to 40 mph, significantly higher than the 25 mph of GM's hybrid applications. The X6 will be shown next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Check out the video after the jump.
