VIDEO: Like, it's Elon Musk talking to Valley Girl
Elon Musk talks to Vally Girl - Click above to watch the videos after the break
If you've ever wanted to see someone run the escargo pun into the ground, we've got just the videos for you. Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk recently pinked it up with Valley Girl (played by Jesse Draper), who apparently thought Legally Blonde was a how-do video. Musk appears in the first episode of Valley Girl's new season and the two-part interview has been posted. Part 1 is all about SpaceX while the Tesla Motors goodies come in Part 2. Watch the videos after the jump.
Musk doesn't break any news in the segment, but we did learn he has triplets. More importantly for green car fans, he said that he hopes Tesla will be making "millions of cars" in ten years. A reachable and/or reasonable goal?
Later in the season, Valley Girl will have a chat with big-time ethanol backer Vinod Khosla. Stay tuned.

I guess Jesse is Tim Draper's daughter (from Draper, Fisher, Jurvetson VC), which explains why Elon went on her show. DFJ is an investor in Tesla Motors. She kinda looks like Rachel Maddow in make-up. She's not dumb, just playing a role. A light-hearted look at SV is not necessarily a bad thing. More power to her.

So the Volt is like a 7% electric car as it is suppose to go 40 miles of it's 600 mile range on electricity? Yes what a bear to be carrying around all that extra weight and then sell at a loss. So the Volt is 93% gas car? Just what we need to get off foreign oil. Good job GM.

why not the LS2LS7? 3:49PM (9/01/2009)
That's a stupid argument. By that argument, if they cut the gas tank down in size it would be a better car because more of its range would come from electricity. It would even "benefit" from a gas engine that used twice as much fuel per mile, because that would halve the range and have the same effect of making it "more of an electric car".
FitFan 4:03PM (9/01/2009)
If you consider the fact that most Americans (not sure about people in the rest of the world) drive fewer than 40 miles per day, you could use the same logic to claim it was 100% electric.
How often do you drive 600 miles per day?
Ray 4:19PM (9/01/2009)
Are you guys calling Elon Musk stupid? He said the Prius was a 2% electric car so it is 98% gas.
Musk as much money to be calling him stupid.
So now 40 miles range is great for a EV? When many ABG readers consider a 100 mile range EV for $20,000 a wast of money and say EV technology is not here yet.
I drive 600 miles per day less than 1% of the time. But if I do not have this capability the car, many people say is useless.
Can't have it both ways.
My logic and real life experience is a 100 mile range EV will work perfect for me 98% of the time with no charging stations and a little planning. Now imagine if there were quick charging stations and range increased to 200 miles. For me it would be Bye, Bye ICE.
FitFan 4:39PM (9/01/2009)
I'm not calling Musk stupid. I don't know him well enough to make that call.
Musk is a salesperson and he is going to present facts out of context to make competing products look inferior. Assuming for the sake of discussion that the numbers on the Volt are correct, it is true that the 40 mile electric only range only covers about 6.7% of the full range on a tank of gas. The problem is that in real world use, 99% of consumers are going to drive fewer than 40 miles per day on average. There will be times when you decide to make a cross-country drive and the gas mileage will suffer, but those occassions will be infrequent. Most Volt owners will enjoy the benefits of electric car commuting most of the time.
The Volt won't be the car for everyone. I think we need Volts, Leafs, Tesla roadsters, electric motorcycles and other options to cover the range of possible uses.
If you want to turn the argument around you could say that the Volt makes a lot more sense than the Tesla roadster for most people. At least the Volt gives you the option to drive 600 miles between fillups. If you owned a Tesla you would have to rent or own another car for those longer drives.
why not the LS2LS7? 5:12PM (9/01/2009)
I'm not calling Musk stupid, I'm calling him, in essence, a liar. That's what marketing is. He is trying to sell you on his product and not a competing product. Do do you expect him to present an unbiased picture?
If you use the Volt as intended, most days it will operate as an EV. Not 7% of the time, more like 70% of the time. If that doesn't fit your usage model, then don't buy it, it's not the car for you.
nikidd 6:15PM (9/01/2009)
@FitFan: Musk didn't say Volt and also volt is not available today. So if you think a little bit it turns out that we are talking for Prius probably that is doing what? 6-7 miles in electric mode? So I can't say that it's even 2% electric, since I can't think of trip that you can perform in all electric mode.
@why not the LS2LS7?: talking for Volt too? So who's the liar then? Did you hear Musk naming the Volt here? Or you just want to present your side of the story, which is always antiTesla?
Don't have the chance to know Elon Musk in person, but from the interviews I've seen till now I'm very much impressed with his vision for the future and for what he's doing to make them happen.
Also all the best for GM's Volt, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru and all others that may want to kick-off the ICE from our cars. Not so sure for Toyota as from my point of view they are trying to do their best to slow this down and benefit from Prius. Shame on them.
FitFan 6:51PM (9/01/2009)
@nikkid:
Ray brought up the Volt example so I just assumed that he was referencing a comment by Musk in the videos. I later watched the videos and noticed that he only talked about the Prius (with the 2% number).

@Fitfan: Wow, neither of them ever said "Prius" either, they both exclusively said "hybrid," she could be driving an Escalade for all we know.
I love that he used a hairdryer as an example for her, hahaha

doh! :-P

Ray,
Do you commute 600 miles a day?
