Over the next few years, we're expecting pretty much every automaker in the world to address its fuel consumption and overall emissions in the face of increased scrutiny from both the public and the various national governments. Even supercar makers like Lamborghini and Ferrari are likely to introduce hybrid models, probably somewhere around the 2015 model year.

Fans of the Italian automaker from Maranello need not worry that their favorite brand has lost the plot when it comes to making performance cars. Speaking to Autocar at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Ferrari's Amadeo Felisa says that future Prancing Horse models will continue pushing the boundaries of horsepower with its trademark V12 engines. Interestingly, those V12 engines will even power the company's hybrid cars, though we can also expect turbocharged V8 powerplants.

The Ferrari California is slated to get stop/start technology starting in March of 2010, and Felisa suggests that this is the model that the automaker will use to introduce further innovations. We'll see how quickly that includes hybrid powertrains soon enough.
