Myers Motors teasing new two-seat model, due next week
When we spoke to Myers Motors CEO Dana Myers back in January, he teased us with the idea of a two-seat version of their iconic NMG vehicle. At the time, the word was that the NMG 2 would be unveiled in the spring. That didn't happen. Instead, we just got word that the NMG 2 will make an appearance next Tuesday in Manhattan. For now, the company has a new teaser image (above) of the all-electric vehicle.
Myers told us that the NMG 2 would be have side-by-side seating (see also: the Qui Moto). interestingly, the silhouette in the teaser image appears to show an extended, tandem seat version of the NMG (which was based on the Corbin Sparrow). It's clear that the company will stick with the three-wheeled set-up, keeping the NMG 2 firmly in the motorcycle class and we'll have all the details for you next week.

At the very least, this will give them a change to update the styling of the Sparrow, of which I was never much of a fan. The silliness going on on the hood in that teaser does not give me much hope that they've come up with something that will really do it for me.
That being said, I love having more products in the city EV space. Good luck to them.

I've always thought the NMG was way overpriced considering the specs, and they haven't improved much with the change to Li-Ion.
Here's hoping the NMG 2 has 100 mile range and the price is well on this side of ridiculous.

I don't think the NmG needs a 100 mile range. I wouldn't be wiling to use it for a long commute. They're better off sticking with a shorter range and doing their best to get the price down.

I drive a 2007 NmG as my daily driver and can clearly see obvious differences in the teaser image. The teaser image does bear a family resemblance to the Sparrow/NmG, but the NmG2 is clearly wider as evidenced by the more gently curving windshield. Other obvious differences are that the fenders are now higher than the hood, the formerly depressed-into-the-hood cyclops headlight is now in a raised dome feature above the hood line, and the windshield to bumper distance is longer with a much less steep slope. The windshield wiper(s) and antenna now appear to be hidden as well.
I imagine the range will be similar to the Li powered NmG as they intend on using the same drive train and pack size.
Pricing will surely be dependent on how effective they were at reducing the man-hours required for assembly.

Its the old Corbin Merlin, or it looks like it.

Corbin Motors sold the rights to the Merlin to a group in Seattle, then Spokane Washington back in late '04 called Merlin Motors. They had fabulous scale-up plans (ready to make 100,00 units!) with a Chicago based specialty vehicle manufacturer building the single seat, open cockpit, v-twin (H-D) powered three wheeler for them. Merlin Motors quietly disappeared sometime in 2006.
Corbin Motors actually sold about 15 of them before they went under in 2004. No enclosed Merlins (the picture everyone remembers) were actually built.
