BMW is known for offering premium automobiles and motorcycles here in the United States, so it comes as little surprise that the German automaker would plan to produce premium electric vehicles as well. According to Autocar, those electric vehicles, which are currently being developed under BMW's Project i initiative, will be available with two-, three- and four-wheeled platforms.
Marc Gerard, head of interior design at BMW, explains that the automaker has yet to decide whether these Project i vehicles will "fit below Mini, between Mini and BMW or above BMW." Another issue that needs to be sorted out is whether the electric machines will break new styling ground or if the automaker will instead choose a more conservative path so as to not alienate potential buyers.

BMW is a premium retailer but they did introduce cars like the 1 series which was closer to the general public and this was a welcome. I hope they do start out with premium models but follow through with cars at the lower end of the price spectrum.

And they wonder why they can't find a market for electric vehicles? Lets make a quick review kids:
chevy volt 40k+,
Fisker karma "More than i am worth"+,
Tesla roadster "More than my parents are worth"+,
Aptera 2e "I think i am gonna buy that one"
I would guess that your price point would dictate how many cars you are gonna sell, but its my guess that BMW wouldnt listen to anyone about that...

Premium cars is always where new technologies cut teeth. Cars themselves were originally premium until someone figured out how to make them affordable, and that worked very well.
