Citroen's C3 Picasso gets more efficient and more connected
Citroen has just introduced a revised version of the C3 Picasso compact MPV in the UK with a re-calibrated engine to reduce the CO2 emissions. The VTR+ and exclusive models equipped with the 90 hp diesel engine are now rated at 119 g/km CO2 compared to the 125 g/km of the previous edition. Getting below that 120 g/km threshold is important in the UK because road taxes are in part based on fuel/consumption CO2 emissions. Getting into the lower tax band means a reduction from £120 to just £35. Mileage goes from 50 mpg (U.S.) on the EU combined cycle to 52.3 mpg (U.S.). The new, high-mileage models also get standard Bluetooth connections for cell phones and USB connections for MP3 players.

LOWER CO2, IMPROVED MPG & MORE CONNECTIVITY FOR CITROËN'S C3 PICASSO
The biggest small car on the road, Citroën's award-winning C3 Picasso, is now even more functional and economical with the availability of a new optional Bluetooth® upgrade and a recent engine improvement that sees the funky MPV deliver sub-120g/km CO2 emissions for just £35 a year road tax.
Further improving C3 Picasso's already impressive environmental credentials, the 1.6HDi 16V 90hp diesel engine has been re-homologated and, in VTR+ & Exclusive trim, now emits just 119g/km of CO2 (down from 125g). Consequently, both of these C3 Picasso models are now classified in VED band C - meaning an annual road tax reduction from £120 to just £35. Even more significantly, these models now deliver an extra 2.7mpg on the combined cycle, bringing the new figure to 62.8mpg.
Also on VTR+ and Exclusive - as part of a new option pack - an integrated Bluetooth® hands-free system has been introduced, so drivers can safely and easily keep in touch when they are on the move. This new option also includes a built-in USB Box and socket, which allows users to connect a portable MP3 player directly to the car's audio system. Menu navigation and music selection is managed via the steering-mounted and dashboard radio controls, with song titles displayed on the radio screen.

This article like others gives the lie to the usual explanations to why the US does not get cars like this here. Here Citroen is willing to modify a car to meet unique UK taxing laws and meet their emissions and safety regulations. And the UK is a small market compared to the US. No way they will sell more of these in absolute numbers in the UK than they would in the US even if the percentage here is smaller. There is more to the story about why we don't get cars like this here, but nobody is talking.
