A couple weeks ago, Remy International chief executive officer John Weber offered up his one-sided opinion regarding the shift towards in-house production of vital hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) components. As a discouraged Weber previously remarked:
Does it annoy me that GM's going down this path? It annoys the hell out of me. Especially given how much they've crawled around our plants and gone through our supply base.
Well Remy International, supplier of EV components, gave up on dishing out words against the shift towards in-house production of EV components and instead focused on delivering a knockout blow of its own.

To that end, Remy teamed up with Enova Systems, a leading innovator of electric drive systems. Both companies will collaborate on the development and production of one of the most advanced electric drive systems to date. Enova will offer up its state-of-the-art Omni controller and Remy will bring its HVH electric motor to the party. Combined, these two components are claimed to smoke any electric drive system on the market today and should convince some automakers that the Remy-Enova system is far superior to anything they can hatch up in-house. Follow the jump for more info regarding the collaborative work between Remy and Enova.

PRESS RELEASE

Enova to Develop Revolutionary Electric Drive System in Collaboration with Remy Inc.

TORRANCE, Calif., Jul 08, 2010. Enova Systems, Inc. (NYSE AMEX:ENA) (AIM:ENV) (AIM:ENVS), a leading innovator of proprietary hybrid and electric drive systems propelling the alternative energy industry, announced it will collaborate with Remy Inc. (Remy) to develop a new electric drive system based on the Omni controller and Remy HVH motor. Remy is North America's largest independent manufacturer of advanced electric propulsion motors. "Combined, these two technologies and the expertise behind them create a solution that will enable vehicle manufacturers and system integrators to more easily and efficiently develop reliable, high-performance drivetrains."

John Weber, Remy CEO, added, "Remy is proud to collaborate with Enova as a provider of drivetrain solutions for this market. Whenever we collaborate, we seek innovative companies like Enova that are dedicated to reliability, quality and the customer."

The companies signed a non-exclusive Letter of Intent on June 30. Said Staran, "The optimized controller-motor solution we are developing demonstrates the strong technology heritage and commitment to customers that Enova continues to bring to the hybrid and all-electric vehicle market."
