Chevrolet Volt in 'Victory Red' – click above for high-res image gallery
After reporting that at least one Chevrolet dealer is ready to charge $20,000 over MSRP for the Volt, the country's largest new-car dealership chain, AutoNation, has come forth stating that none of its 27 Chevrolet dealers are expected to charge a premium for the upcoming Volt. Green Car Advisor reports that AutoNation has officially warned all of its Chevrolet dealerships that they are "subject to immediate termination" if they decide to sell the Volt above MSRP.
AutoNation dealerships are allowed to add some dealer-installed options that may raise the price of the Volt above GM's listed MSRP of $41,000 ($33,500 after the $7,500 federal tax credit), but they are not permitted to price gouge simply because the vehicle may be in short supply due to potentially high demand and limited production capabilities. If the thought of possibly paying $20,000 over MSRP for the Volt pains you, then you might want to check out AutoNation's website to locate a dealer nearby.
