When Mazda announced that it would be bringing its diminutive 2 to America at the Los Angeles Auto Show last December, it gave the B-segment hatch a mild facelift compared to the version that had been on sale in Europe and Asia for some time. That new smiley-faced look, which echos the larger Mazda3, is heading to Europe this fall as well and will make its continental debut at the Paris Motor Show next month. The interior and the suspension also get updates similar to those for the American model.

The completely new Mazda5 also gets its auto show debut in Paris and it will include a new 1.6-liter, inline-four diesel engine and a lightweight, six-speed manual gearbox. The diesel-powered van has 113 horsepower and achieves 45.2 miles per gallon (U.S.) on the EU combined cycle. The new diesel and gearbox are also finding a home in the Mazda3, which scores a combined rating of 53.5 miles per gallon (U.S.) and 117 g/km of CO2 emissions.
