Smart roadster patent drawings – Click above for high-res image gallery
Back on November 16th, 2010, Daimler submitted a set of patent drawings for trademark approval. The sketches appear to be a Smart Fortwo-based roadster, but we're not exactly sure if this concept is simply a redux of the automaker's Crossblade cabriolet – a vehicle which sold in limited numbers in the early 2000s – or a fresh submission that could debut at one of the upcoming 2011 auto shows.
Autocar reports that the patent drawings actually relate to a concept vehicle, set to be called the Speedster, which will debut at the Geneva Motor Show this March. In addition, the Speedster concept will apparently be fitted with the same electric powertrain that's used in the Smart ED. Autocar concludes that the Speedster is a pure concept and is not the inspiration for a future production car. If the Speedster does arrive in Geneva, though, you can bet that we'll capture live shots of the world debut.
