MHTI is a public-private partnership led by the DOE and its Clean Cities program. Five fleet partners – including Aramark, UPS, Nestle Waters of North America, Sysco Corporation, and Efficiency Enterprises – currently participate in Maryland's hybrid truck initiative. These five companies will soon become the recipients of the 143 Freightliner hybrid trucks. The heavy-duty cargo-hauling hybrids will be deployed within the state of Maryland and, aside from transporting goods, will be used to train mechanics in hybrid vehicle repair and to study the actual fuel consumption of hybrids used in day-to-day operations.
