Back in January, Nissan unveiled its fuel-saving transport ship: the 21,000-ton City of St. Petersburg. The ships semispherical prow apparently reduces wind resistance by nearly 50 percent compared to a conventional vessel. The reduced drag slashes fuel consumption by up to 800 tons and reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 2,500 tons.

In early February, the City of St. Petersburg, loaded with an undisclosed number of Nissan Leafs, left Japan and made its way to England. This batch of Leafs, the first major shipment sent to Europe since the vehicle's launch, will go on sale in the UK in March. The battery-powered hatch has a base price of £23,350 ($37,904 U.S. at the current exchange rate) in the UK after the government's £5,000 ($8,117 U.S.) plug-in vehicle rebate.
